In heat but will not tie up What do I do? She first went into heat at 10 mos and total she's had 3 cycles and she will not take a male... What I mean is she will nt stand still for him. She growls and barks at him. What's going on? Also her heat cycle is weird... 10 mos old then 9 mos later then 6 mos later and it is 6 mos later again with no heat cycle... possibly in 3 more mos... ????? BTW she weighs about 7 lbs. Any suggestions are welcome... |
year's ago we had a gsd female that was champion sired and a wonderful example of the breed she never had pup's would just not accept the male we tried to do an ai an the vet ended up doing a scope to see why they could not ai her she had a blockage well they fixed it but we ended up spaying her at five years she would just never breed six months could be her regular cycle but you also need to make sure she does not have (Pyometra) or any other female problems also females accept the male at different times she just may not be ready to breed most are from 9 to 11 day's into there heat cycle before they will breed PYOMETRA: Pyometra is a disease of the uterus in bitches. It is fast, can strike any intact female dog, and can often kill. For that reason it is worth being aware of. Pyometra is best imagined as being a bit like acute appendicitis of the uterus, the female dog's womb. The womb begins to shed layers, which easily become infected, they can stay trapped inside her body by the cervix, and after some time, the infection hits the body with devastating effects. The usual treatment has been an emergency spay, to remove the infected sexual organs, but as this prevents a bitch from breeding it is worth noting that some advances have been made in treating "pyo" with massive antibiotics for up to 40 days to bring it under control. Sometimes, for a prize dog, it is desired to get at least one litter from her before spaying, if pyometra happens suddenly before she has had pups. But this is risky and should not be done lightly. In any case, consult your veterinarian. |
A female dog reaches sexual maturity any time between 6 and 18 months. A Yorkie would mature faster than a Great Dane. The smaller the dog, the faster it matures. A bitch goes into heat every 6 months, except for the Basenji which only goes into heat once a year....same as a wolf. A male dog reaches sexual maturity between the ages of 4 to 6 months. The of four stages of Estrus (or "heat") are as follows: PROESTRUS: "coming into heat stage"; females attract males but are not receptive to them; vulva is swollen; estrogen levels increase; lasts 6-9 days ESTRUS: "standing heat"; will stand for male and be receptive; estrogen levels drop; progesterone levels increase; lasts about 6 days METESTRUS: "going out of heat"; only happens if not pregnant; progesterone level returns to normal; lasts about 60 days ANESTRUS: "silent period"; normal state; lasts about 4 months |
won't tie up thank you so much for the information |
has she never accepted the male has she ever let him try? |
won't tie up She has never let him try. She always barks snaps and growls. I have held her still before but I was too scared that it woud upset her so I let her go. |
have you tried to have them ai'd and sometimes you just have to hold them does she flag at all and show she is receptive |
wont tie up what do you mean by flag? some times she will let him sniff, but she doesn't throw it up in his face, ya know? No, we have never tried ai. If it doesn't work with me holding her, I may have to. |
flagging is when the female holds her tail up and is receptive |
No, she does the opposite: she tucks it under! LOL |
4 months Quote:
:) what is the youngest age you have knoiwn a male to sire a litter? 4 months????????? |
Mia Hi I have kinda of the same problems MIA is on her third heat cycle, she has not tried but she does flag, the male was inside her. are there any suggestions that any of you can give me to help her to be more successful. tazzy |
Maybe she likes girls :rbyorkie: sorry...just had to! I know this must be frustrating for you! |
In heat but won't tie up I would still like to know what to do when she won't even flag... she tucks her tail underneath her... |
other option would be AI, or you will just have to hold her still. |
