how to tell she's pregnant... my male and female have tied about 5 times now, once a day, and she's still accepting him to breed her, but not every time, every now and then she nips and growls at him. also she she's been rubbing up against everything, she doesn't normally do that, she normally just rubs up against her toys, but now it's against the carpets, chairs, couch, everything. are these early signs that she may be pregnant? |

I don't think her rubbing things would mean she is pregnant. She is probably just marking those things as hers or she has an itch she needs to scratch. Normally most breeders don't let the male and female breed every day. Every other day would have been sufficient. It just reduces the chance of risk to the male, plus by letting the male rest a day it gives his sperm a chance to build back up. How long has she been in heat? |

oh ok, i've had a few people say that breeding once a day is alright as well. umm i'd say she's been in heat for at least a week or so. i just don't want to miss her ovulation whenver that may be. but i thought that when they start to to reject the male to breeding that means that she's probably pregnant, because if they aren't pregnant they can be in heat for up to 3 weeks, is that correct? |

she is supposed to reject him the 1 st week of heat (this is when she is bleeding) second week she gives in to him, and 3rd weeks is ovalation process |

According to Myra Savant Harris it is ok to breed them once a day. Our boys do not seem to mind nor do the girls. It takes time to tell if they are pregnant, just be patient! |

Is this U're 1st time breeding? I kinda feel it is the way U're asking so many different questions. Can I ask if U've read any books on Breeding Yorkies? If not U might want to do that this way U would kinda know what to expect. Breeding Yorkies is not something to just jump into without researching everything U can about the Yorkie Breed first. I'm not trying to discourage U from Breeding Yorkies just hoping U'll do some research to learn how to breed Yorkies the proper way. Have U ever whelped a litter of Yorkies before? Hope some of this may help U & good luck :) Lee |

i have a male and female yorkie when my female goes into heat she won't let my male touch her at all |

I don't see a problem with them breeding every day, but you might want to be careful about the first and last breeding being too far apart. You could have underdeveloped puppies. :( If they have truly tied that many times then I would think she's ready, or just about to be. Usually the male won't (and can't) do anything until it's time. |

I listed a couple books on your other thread, I would not be without them and really think they are necessary! I can give you a list of several others that are a good read if you would like! |

Yes I would like U're list of Yorkie books. I am a breeder of Yorkies and have bred Yorkies before, just taking the year off to learn more & try to get our Yorkies more toward the AKC Standards. I appreciate any and all help and thoughts :) Thanks, Lee |

U are also right about the Mentor & experience of whelping of the Yorkies. Sorry I just didn't think of the Mentor some of us make mistakes too in things we think they should be doing, and I also forget. :) |

i know i'm asking a lot of questions, but isn't that the research part? i'm not just jumping into this blindfolded, i've learned so much on this site, what to expect, what to do for a fading puppy, all the supplies needed etc. and yes i am getting a book, i ordered it off the net and it should be here in a couple days. this is my first time breeding, hence all the questions. i am going to give this a real shot not just doing it for the heck of it. sorry if i'm asking too many questions for you, but me asking all these questions has really taught me a tonne of things. |

i would love to have a mentor, but the only person that i know around my area that breeds yorkies/small dogs doesn't even want me breeding in the first place because it'll create competition for her. so i don't think she'd be willing to help me. and i didn't want to get into breeding just to try and compete with her... she's got it all wrong. |
