how long after the puppy should you expect the rest of the placenta?

What do you mean the rest of the placenta? Did the pup come out dry without the sac?

She should expel it in the next couple contractions. Make sure they are all accounted for.

If they are not all out you will need to take her in to the vet for an oxytocin shot

thank u so much... its been about 30 min and its partially out... theres like a little ball of fluid thats hanging but hasnt come all the way out yet

Sounds like you could be getting your second pup before the placenta. This has happened to me too, you get two and then the placentas. If this is your second and you have hemostats (or just hang on to it with your fingers), clamp them to the cord so the placenta does not go back up AFTER you break the sac and suction, don't worry about cutting the cord right now.

pebbles chewed the cord off already

I agree. This sounds like another puppy, The placenta from the first puppy should come out either with the next puppy, or anytime after. Just count the placenta's as each pup is born. If you cannot account for a placenta for every pup after whelp...a clean out shot at the vet's will likely be necessary.

So you have a second pup ? Or are you saying she chewed the cord off the first?

You have to be sure you see all placentas.

DON't let her chew it herself. She could chew it off too close. Get your hands in there.

no no second pup yet... it was off the first. i had tried to get my hands in there but she was just so quick. luckily it wasnt chewed too short. shes just resting now.


i cant believe how quicly this all happened. 20 minutes before she was chasing my cat around the house being her normal self.... then out of no where she walks over to her whelping box sits down and out pops a puppy! by the time i ran over to her she was already chewing. :-/ the puppy has been removed from the sac and suctioned. it has been about 45 minutes or so now? no second puppy yet

she just had another contraction but nothing. she seems exhausted.

Sounds just like my Tinkerbell...lol She will play and run to the bedroom and plop one out!
Pebbles had x-rays and it showed two big babies, correct?

yes.. i didnt actually get to see the xray buit the vet said he saw two
and you could definately see two moving in her belly! they were kickers!
