size of litter :animal36:aimeeyork:animal-pa:)some litters are 2 pups.. and some are 5 or 7.. what is the reason? is it number of times tieing? i have read that tieing 3 times is good. also, do i really have to help them? my little stud is shorter than his future wife.. my breeder told me that the puppies are smaller in larger litters.. i appreciate your feedback. ...:aimeeyork:animal36jen |
The number of ties have nothing to do with the number of puppies . I bred Colleen one time with Gazou and she had 4 beautiful puppies . The number of puppies depend on the female's ovulation . |
The size of the litter is determined by how many eggs are fertilized and by the mother's capacity to carry them. The timing of the tie is therefore more important than the number. Fresh sperm is required at the time that the eggs are mature which is usually 2 -3 days after ovulation. For most of my gals that's about 10 days into their estrus. The more pups that mom must carry does influence the size of the pups when born but birth weight doesn't always correspond with adult weight. |
