What tape is best? I hope to hear from some of the experienced breeders on here and anyone else who cares to answer knowledgeably. What kind of tape is best to use when taping puppies ears to help train them to stand? Also, at what age do the ears normally stand on their own? Thanks for your help. :aimeeyork :animal-pa |
I just use 1/2 inch masking tape. I shave the ears first, front and back, then tape them up. Yorkies pups ears vary in what age they will go up. I have had some that are never down and others that have gone up at 4 months. |

I always use masking tape. it is easier on the ears. I have four week puppies now and the ears are already going up and down on them. If they are not totally up by the age of six-eight weeks, I will tape them but it looks like they will stand on their own in a day or two.. |
I used masking tape as well to do Brooklynn's and Bella's... Brooklynn took about 2 weeks and Bella took 4 weeks because she had thick ear leather.. |
4 Attachment(s) i also use masking tape...but for some reason i am having the hardest time with kioko's ears. i bought him from a breeder and his ears are huge and floppy...but so was Tootsie and I got her to stand...but with his i am having a really hard time...hehe...maybe someone can suggest something else...i have attached pictures of Tootsie when i first got her and thru the stages... |
2 Attachment(s) Now this is Kioko...his ears are not no bigger than hers but i am having a really hard time...hehe |
I now 3M Transpore clear Surgical Tape. It let the skin breathe better so it is less itchy for the puppy. And it is easy to removed. |
I have used masking tape also in the past and am trying my darndest to NOT have to use it again. Our new little girl, Halle, it 11 weeks old and her ears are not standing erect.....yet. It really looks like they will come up, and I'd love to see them come up on their own, but my patience is wearing down and I don't want to take the chance of them not coming up. So, I'll probably be taping them in a day or two:rolleyes: |

taping dogs ears This is an interesting thread....... There is a product on the market that we use to glue false eyelashes on with and that is the perfect solution to making ears stand.........you shave the whole ear and put this on and it hardens and wears off by itself and is great......only used it once but it did work......also remember at about 4 months their ears may flop again as they are cutting teeth but they will soon perk up again..........I always feed my babies french vanilla yogurt and the calcium helped also...........I believe Terri Shumsky told how to do this with instruction in a DVD that we will be offering in an auction to support livershunt research....... Thanks for the replies. I tried the masking tape and it didn't work all that well as they took it off each other. The glue sounds like a good idea. I will see if I can find some and try that. The puppies are 10 weeks old today and only one's ears are partially up. That one kept the tape on the longest I think. They are soooooo busy right now. Anything new catches their attention but I really don't want them eating the tape. lol Would they glue be harmful if they "tasted" it? Thanks again everyone. :aimeeyork :animal-pa |
