Vomiting/Diarrhea @ 5 weeks pregnant - please help! Candi is 5 weeks pregnant and suddenly developed an acute onset of vomiting and diarrhea last night. She had numerous bouts of yellow foamy vomiting during the night and one bout of dark highly odorous diarrhea. She is calmer now and has gone a couple of hours without any further episodes. Her little nose is warm to touch. She is being still at the moment. Other than watch her closely, is there anything else that I should do right now? |

The first thing I do when vomiting and /or diarrhea is take away all food and water. Let her tummy settle. Is she running a temp? Check it...not just her nose If she is "I" would call the vet. Others will be on soon with better info then me. But dont let her eat or drink FOR NOW. |
Thank you and I will take her temp right now. I have withheld food and water even though I don't think she is interested in either one anyway. |

I would be very, very cautious and highly recommend taking her to a vet today...I know it is sunday but better safe than sorry! One of my grls developed gastroenteritis when she was 8 weeks pregnant...she had only vomited a couple times, and had a couple bouts of diarrhea...I brought her in and she was dehydrated, hypoglycemic and hypocalcemic from the gastroenteritis. She ended up delivering her puppies 4 days early and we lost 2. I would highly recommend getting her to the vet for a blood panel and stool check today!!! We take them to the vet at the first sign of not feeling well...especially when they are pregnant! They can go downhill soooo fast! |
Yea it could be morning sickness, although we usually see that at about 3 weeks along. They may loose their appetite for part of the day and will vomit bile. I have not seen diarrhea with that yet. The color of her stool has me worried that her intestines may have old blood in them or the is dehydrated. It could be morning sickness but I think I would still take her to the vet. It is hard when we can not see them too! |

Thanks for replying! That stool worries me as well. It had a horrible smell and was very dark. She has gone a little over 3 hours now without any more N/V/D. No interest in eating or drinking either, which I haven't offered either. I will take her temp in a moment. Being Sunday, and no vets around except the emergency clinic, I above all want her to be okay, but do not want to over-react either. |

To something serious. The diarrhea is what threw me as far as Morning sickness And I agree with you all. I dont know how little she is or how fast she would dehydrate. But I do know that it can set off early labor. I was hoping you all would come along quick. I just told her what my vet always told me. ;) I wouldnt wait long at all to call the vet even tho Sunday. And if a temp at all call the vet NOW |
I would take to ER vet just to be on the safe side also...but I've also had both of these things happen in pregnancy and they be ok but I'd be off to the vet with the odor dirreahha myself |
Her temp is 100.6 F. |
Her temp sounds fine, low if anything. As Donna said, I would take mine to the vet, better safe than sorry. ETA:Sorry it not low, just on the low side. 100.5 - 102.5 is the norm for dogs. |
Sally, if she is pooing dark greenish black it could be a separated placenta. i had a girl do this once and vomit green bile but she was just a few days from whelping. needless to say, I almost lost her. Not sure if that could happen at five weeks. Let us know what your vet says. |
