Sage in Heat Again?? Please Help Me To Know. I've read through the threads here trying to find out if Sage could be in heat again..I don't mean to be blunt here in how I'm speaking so please take no offense to it but I really need to know what is going on. And yes I have tons of questions as I've never went through this before with Yorkies!! On Feb 25th Sage was in heat this I know she was bleeding and it was a big spot in our hall on the carpet & she was swollen. She keeps herself so very very clean I couldn't hardly tell when she stopped bleeding, I kept wiping with toilet paper after everytime she peed, well she was flaggin her tail and trying her best to sit on mine & my hubbys shoes every single time we came into our Yorkie Room the whole week of March 3rd. I took her outside on her harness just for about 1/2 hour to enjoy some fresh air since she'd been in heat and couldn't go outside March 20th which was 24 days after her 1st day bleeding, (We didn't take her outside any before the 20th due to not having our front yard fenced in yet and we didn't want any stray males marking in our yard due to her being in heat!) She's been fine since I "Thought" she was done with her heat cycle...Today March 24th I came into our Yorkie room and I had changed the puppy pads like an hour before both clean Weezie and Sofie in crates for naps and here there is blood on the puppy pad with her pee and a drop on the tile, I thought what so I wiped Sage with toilet paper and sure enough here she's bleeding again. I NEVER had this with Tiffanie she bleed the 1st week we could see it & had to wear diapers to keep it off the floor...Done that was it with bleeding until her next cycle. So is Sage in her heat cycle again??? U know I kept my 2 boys in the living room & NEVER let them around Sage, Weezie or Sofie since before Sage went into heat!! Thank GOD!!!!!!!! If she is in heat again, why is this happening? Is this normal? If she is in heat again how long will it last? Do I keep her inside (No outside walks) for another 21 days? If she is in heat would this be counted as her 2nd heat? If she is in heat again does this mean she'll do this with each heat? When do I start counting to watch for her next heat from March 25, 08 or March 24, 08? (I mean Tiffanie went every 6 months into heat, was late on her heat in the Fall 2006 & I thought it was due to her having her 1st litter in May, this is what I mean by counting months..Hope that makes sense lol.) When I choose to breed her in the Spring of 2009 then what days would I put them together on (The 1st time she bleeds or 2nd time? What days do I put them together on?) & No I didn't count days with Tiff and Teddy my bad I know go ahead and yell at me I'm ready for it & can take it. lol I just put them together and they stayed together for 2 weeks after she stopped her bleeding I know another bad I'm in for it here lol. I've learned my lesson tho if that counts for anything ha, ha. To be truthful tho I don't really know that I could of held Tiffanie for Teddy to breed her. I'm 4'10 & 1/2" tall and I weigh around 97 lbs. Tif was hugh and so wide through her belly, holding her would of been really hard truthfully. I'm nuts girls I know lol. Any ways Help me to learn the "Right and Proper way here!!" I will have to keep our Boys in the living room all this year I think lol poor babies don't get to enjoy their new room like the girls, Sofie and Weezie is 9 months now & I'm keeping them in here too just incase they was to go into heat early too..U just never know and with all 3 of our girls this is their 1st heats so better safe then sorry and Teddy is Sofie and Weezies Daddy and Galahad is their brother from a previous litter. See Sages' line is different from what I'm use to so I'm glad I'm taking the year off to learn more!!! What else will she suprise me with?? LOL. I'm sorry for so many questions but I've never been through this and need your guys advice and wisdom on this matter. Anything else U can think of to help me I would dearly love all and any thoughts on this from all breeders here. Thanks & Hugs |
If she was done bleeding and started again before about four months, I would be extremely concerned about pyometra. It isn't very common in younger females but it is possible. I don't want to overreact but I will say if she was my dog, I'd be on the phone with the vet. |

Could be a split heat cycle. Split heats occur when a bitch grows follicles on her ovaries and experiences the signs of pro-oestrus (swollen vulva, vulvar bleeding, attractiveness to males) but does not progress into oestrus and does not ovulate. The bitch's follicles will usually regress, and then she will come into a complete heat cycle with ovulation anywhere from two to 12 weeks later. Split heats are most common in a young bitch, especially at her first season, and are not considered to be associated with infertility when bred on the cycle in which ovulation occurs. Split heats must be differentiated from short inter-oestrous intervals between two true heat cycles. A vaginal smear will show red blood cells and intermediate and superficial cells as would be expected during pro-oestrus but in a split heat will not progress into an oestrus smear. Udate On Sage I got up this morning after leaving Sage in our Yorkie Room all night alone, there were blood spots on the floor 4 of them and then I checked her and she is doing what I call spotting, there's nothing but blood and it is red. Could she be in a split heat cycle? Tami has any of U're other Yorkies ever done this? Is this something that runs in a line (I mean like Sages' line). Could this happen to her baby girls, when they grow up? I need to know more on this to where I can learn more and know what to do about her NEXT heat. I know nothing of this and have never experienced this before in a Yorkie. Thanks for U're help already but still have the questions that I had before could U all answer or at least try to answer them in detail so I may learn. Thanks and Hugs |

( I found this on the internet ) sorry, I didn't see the same article was posted |
I've had a split heat before. In my case the bleeding was there-stopped went about what seemed forever with the male sniffing and stalking her like a hawk. It was probably about 2 months or so. Then all of a sudden she's swollen and flagging. They're always fertile the second half of the split |
Sage is still bleeding and very swollen. I have her in our Yorkie room and she is safe from our boys. Thanks for all the advice. I will watch her to see how she acts this time around and keep notes. Hugs |
