Question on ears If a puppies ears aren't standing up by 9 weeks, what is percentage that they will stand up? Can I assist in making them stand up after I get him this late? |
Keep the hair shaved off of the ears to remove the extra weight and you can tape the ears too...that will give the cartiledge support and (hopefully) help them stand. |
If your puppy's ears aren't up by 9 weeks, don't worry. There is still plenty of time to get them to come up. I've read lots of posts saying ears didn't come up for quite awhile. There are lots of threads on here about taping. Try doing a search to read more about it. |
You have up until 6 months of age before getting ears to stand is unlikely. Some people tape a puppys' ears to help getting them to stand, but I agree that keeping the hair trimmed/shaved on the upper 1/3 is VERY important so that the hair does not lay heavy on them making it harder for them to stay up. They will also possibly flop some during teething even if they have already been standing upright. Good luck with your new baby! |
i have had very few puppiess that don't lift their ears all by themselves but if they aren't up by seven to eight weeks or so, I tape them. I start shaving the tips when they are about three or four weeks old. |
