Could She Really Be In Heat So Soon? I bought a female yorkie about 4 months ago. She had just had 5 puppies. Could she already be in heat so soon? I found her and my male attached this morning. I'm don't know how to feel about this. I wanted to skip a heat with her. Is she going to be ok? |

Bitches will usually heat from every 6-12 months. Didn't you notice that the male was acting differently towards her? It would depend on how many litters she has had in succession before this, how the deliveries and pregnancies went and her health as to whether she will be okay with being bred again so soon. |

Yes, she is in heat. The cycle averages about six months apart regardless of pregnancy and whelping. So if her cycle is six months that's about right. |

No, my male never made any signals to me that she was even in heat. I did see one of my females climb on top of her the other day but I didn't think anything of it. She is in tip top shape but I have no clue how many litters she has had in her life time. How could I find this out? |

Well the lady that I bought her from said that she only had one litter with them but she only had her for a year. There isn't some sort of website like the CKC website that could tell how many pups were listed from her litters? I have her papers with her full name on it. |

CKC as in continental or Canadian? How many owners has this por gal had? How old is she? |

I have no idea how many owners she has had. She is 5 years old. I didn't realize there was two CKC. How can I tell the difference? |

Is her pedigree American or Canadian? If she is already 5 years old she is probably more than ready for a rest, she may even be ready for retirement. Have they been using her as a puppy machine and than passing her on? I'd still call her previous owner and get some history on this poor gal. You need to know what you could possibly be facing if you have a litter of pups with her. |

on dogs, you don't count from the time they had pups, you count from their last heat cycle..if they have one every 6 mos. and say it was in heat in June and had pups in August, come Dec. it would be in heat again. that poor baby..to me, by the time they're 5, they should be retired and just be loved as a pet...I hate seeing dogs being used over and over for breeding, makes me want to cry |

I've always heard you should skip every other heat, and only breed until they are about 5. |

That really is sad...I wonder if she called CKC and asked them...would they tell her? |

I pulled out her papers. She is registered Continental Kennel Club. I\'m going to call first thing in the morning. I am really upset that they bred. I have been keeping them apart now. I promise that she is not being used as a puppy machine at my house. They have the run of my house, yard, where every they want to be. I treat my dogs like my kids. They are never locked up in cages like other peoples dogs. I don\'t even own cages! |
