Possible Pregnant Female jumping gaits - need suggestions I bred Macey a couple weeks ago and she jumps every gait I have. I have to keep gaits up to keep them out of certain areas in the house. Well now that I have the male pup seperated and in his own areas, she's jumping into his playyard and the playpen! I worried this may harm her. I noticed tonight she has a scrap on her belly right by her ribs from jumping. I just don't know what to do, I mean, I can't keep her double gaited in a room for 2 months and I'm worried sick that something will happen to her babies if she is pregnant. How harmful is all this jumping? Any suggestions on how to stop her????? I'm worried! |
i wouldn't want her jumping if she were mine and in that condition. for her safety and the safety of the unborn i'd put her somewhere she can't jump out of. Either a separate room, her own expen or a large crate. Or have you tried making the gate higher with plywood or something? does she just fly over it or does she climb up and over? if she's a climber you can purchase a gate without holds to climb up on. |
She jumps, grips on to the top, and pulls herself over. Using her rear legs to help hold her in place. |
Oh I KNOW how you feel...Maddie is a climber. She hasn't had a litter yet, but I'm worried already. She'll scale any fence, wall, gate, or whatever is there lol. When she was a puppy she would climb right out of her ex-pen easily. It was so scary!! I would suggest taking down the gates if you're there, but blocking the gate area when you're not. Can you put her somewhere different where there's a door? Or can you get a large crate for her to keep her safe. I know it's not the most fun thing to do, but I keep mine crated when I leave for their safety, and it sounds like this would be in her best interest. Jumping is definitely hard on them when they're pregnant, and will just get worse as she gets further along. |
so she doesn't climb up the gate. maybe if you make it higher she'll give up because she won't be able to jump high enough to hook her legs up over the top. |
I worry the same. Zoe is a big time jumper. I won't let her up on my bed now because she is constantly jumping down. Poor babies brains are going to be scrambled.:jump28ib: I would think it would be uncomfortable for them but she doesn't seem to mind. She jumps up and down on the sofas. No fear |
I have hear that you should not allow females to jump after their 3rd week of pregnancy. I know it is hard to keep them from doing it. My only suggestion is to double gate the area where she stays or see if you can find a taller gate. |
breny, what I have had to do is put one gate across then one standing on top of that one on it'ss side. |
I just purchased an extra tall gate from Toys R US, they have only vertifical bars, so it really stops my climber. But now she squeezes through the bars lol |
I made some changes today. The puppy that I have for sale I moved out of the puppy room and into my room in a playpen. See what Macey was doing too, is jumping into the playpen to eat the puppies food. The playpen AND the play yard:rolleyes: So when the puppy is eating or in quiet time he's going to be in my room with the door closed. The only other issue is I don't want to keep them gaited in just ONE room. I feel bad so I gait them in one level of my house. But whereever there is a gait...Macey jumps it. She jumps into the gaited area and out of the gaited area. Hubby is frustrated with me    with the double gait thing    it doesn't bother me to have to remove the gait to get thru but him   need I say more??? Men:thumbdown So I just don't know what else to do. |

geez, she doesn't even need that much room to get a running start. i think a higher gate with a blanket over it so she can't get a footing will definitely deter her. she can't possible jump much higher then that. |
Hahaha shes quick!! Bren my Peanut does the same thing,lol....She will jump out of the x-pen when her baby is asleep and then she jumps back in their to eat her food. Needless to say Peanut is getting abit fat from chowing down on the puppies food, so I have had to start putting her behind a closed door when she isnt needing to be with her baby. Some times they figure out a way out no matter what we do,lol! |
I have the male pup in a playpen when I'm not home and she was jumping in and out of that too! Right now I have the door way double gated, and other than that I've been carrying her wherever I go!!! LOL Can you beleive it! I know she's going to follow me, so I just carry her so she won't jump a gate  |
