Female in heat vs. neutered males? Not sure if this is the right forum . . . My Hoku is in her first heat and just started bleeding today. For those who don't know my situation - Hoku has not been spayed as she has a Grade 5 heart murmur and can't undergo surgery. I had Kalani neutered at 5 months cause I didn't want to take any chances. I also had Pi'i neutered before he was shipped to me. My question is, do I need to separate Hoku from her brothers? I saw a post or two that said neutered males can still tie?!? |
I would think you'll be fine. I don't believe there's anything left for the male to share after he's been neutered... I could be wrong, but the males I've seen neutered couldn't possibly reproduce. ;) |

just to let you know even though your males are nutered they can still tie with your female. Mine is nutered and he HAS tied with my female. Better to be safe than sorry. I know they can't get them pregant but someone could get hurt if left unattended. |
Oh yeah I'm sure they could still tie. But I can tell you an awesome way to prevent that without separating them. Either put a belly band on the boys, or put a diaper on her. It works wonders...:D |

Well, I would separate them when you're not there just to be on the safe side...but I've never had a problem with the belly bands and diapers...never any accidents. |
Thank you all for your replies and PM's - I have never been in this situation before as my past females have always been spayed. I most certainly do not want any of my babies getting hurt so will train them to start staying in their crates while I'm gone instead of being together in an x-pen. If you have any further advice, please feel free to post your comments as I appreciate any help I can get! |
