So sad...
 
I found out today that a breeder around here that I had considered buying a puppy from last year has an 8-year-old female that she's still breeding...on every heat.

The excuse was, "well she's never had a problem, and I figure she'll stop when she's ready."

This person has 7 breeds now (just recently added another), and LOTS of adults (I can't begin to guess).

Sad, so sad...:(

I guess this person is considered a "greeder"!!! glad you didnt buy from her and kept her in business!! So sad for the little dog. wonder what she does with them when they just cant produce anymore??

I have no idea, but I'm sitting here wracked with guilt...thinking that maybe I should do something...but I don't think there IS much I can do...:( I just keep thinking about that poor mommy...

She was also bragging that the mommy "just had a litter of six...see, there's nothing wrong with her."

God it makes me sick...

Yeap. Some people just don't care. It's all about the almighty dollar (even if it means putting the puppy in the wrong hands)...

She had 5 I think when I looked...but I thought she may just have a small kennel. I know that's generally a red flag, but my mentor has 5 breeds and they're all very well taken care of...she just has a few of each. So I figured I'd just look...she had a male adult that I was interested in at the time. Needless to say, I left without the male...I was quite unimpressed...:rolleyes:

Ugh:mad: , that poor mama. She deserves a well earned life of leisure in the lap of luxury.......something she's obviously NOT going to get there......probably not even when the lady does stop breeding her.

This is very ridiculous to breed a 8 years old . Last night , at the hospital we had to do a c-section to an 11 years old Shih Tzu . Poor little girl , we are not sure she'll recover from it . She wasn't feeling good when I was ready to go home . I'll keep her in my prayers .

Unfortunately, that is what the latest seminars and etc are telling people to do. I would never do it. They are telling people to breed every heat and the girl will know when she is done. Or so i was told by a show breeder that attended one last year.

I don't know of any reputable breeder that would do that at all! OMG every heat season and when they are that old? That is just cruel! I have a 5 year old and she's only had one litter and I'll probably breed her one more time because she did have a section and then spay her. I couldn't imagine breeding past 6 years old or no more than 3 litters.
