Inter-Breeding Hi all. Emaling from UK, and just to let you know Marnie is doing very well with her new litter of 7 pups that are weeks old on Tuesday - picture on avitar. I would liketo ask the more experienced Breeders about interbreeding i.e. father and daughter. I this acceptable? I have had so many negative responses but also a few positive ones, i just like to know your thoughts. I saw a tiny Yorkie, about 3 inches high fully grown, when i looked at his pedigree, dad had mated 5 generations down the line to him, l with his daughter, granddaughtr, great-grandaughters!!!!! Your comment would be appreciated.thanks. |
While some very experienced breeders used to do this a long long time ago, hardly anyone inbreeds now. If you have any bad faults in your dog, this will bring those out. I would never ever do this but some of the all time great breeders were trying to bring out the good genes in their bloodline is my understanding and it can go either way. congratulations on your beautiful babies!!!!!! |
With Liver Shunt so prevelant in our breed it is not recommended to breed this closely...This is not something that we will do...Line breeding is not as dangerous but as always you need to do your homework and try to educate yourself about the dogs in your pedigrees! ~Laura |
Well thats interesting. |
My nephew always breeds his female golden lab with her son, they have beautiful, healthy pups..I think it's gross myself, but, i'm not a dog.. |
Well what about half brothers and sisters? Just out of curiosity? |
not very familiar with it???i personally wouldnt do it but htats my personal opinion |
Half brother/half sister breedings can be great or very bad. You still need to research the background pedigree and know what genes you are doubling up on. |
In both of my yorkies pedigree's there is half sibling breeding 3 generations back. |
In half brother/sister breedings it really depends on what parent you are doubling up on. Again a full knowledge of the line is required and the dog being doubled must be an extraordinary representation of the breed with exemplary health. Remember that you are doubling up the good but are also doubling up any bad that may be hiding in those recessive genes. |
