Identifying your pups? What do you use and when do you purchase your bands or whatever you may use to ID your pups? So far I have not had a need but I am preparing and thought I'd ask what everyone tends to use. Thanks! |
Ive always been able to tell them apart as my usual litter is 3. But when I had labs, I used ric-rak. I think they have puppy ID bands you can order from Revival or Foster and Smith. |

I have heard that some people use fingernail polish in different colors to tell the puppies apart. I haven't had to resort to this as our usual litter is 4, and usually different sex/sizes to help tell them apart. Our last litter was four boys, and I considered using bands of some kind, but I know my mom would just lick/bite them off. Katelin:) |
I think you can get them from ebay.. I have always just had two per litter, had no need.. but have seen them on ebay... |
1 Attachment(s) I used regular fabric ribbon in different colors (duh). I bought the type that was probably 1/4 (or less) of an inch thick. It worked well for me. |
When we had a batch of 6 I first used colored hair scrunchies, then when they got older i used ribbons.... |
ID I have never found the need to ID with a litter. None of mine are 100% identical...I do not like collars of any material!!! Heard of too many accidents..colored nail polish sounds the best to me. |
I put little bands on when they're born, but once I've been around them for a couple days I can identify them just by looking...I know who's who. :) Then I take the bands off...they scare me beyond that, the way those munchkins grow! :D |
the colored nail polish sounds like a great idea. I personally would have never thought of that LOL I would also get scared with collars and such. It's interesting to see all of the different ideas :) good post  :D |
the thought of finer nail polish scared me the fumes and chemicals on a small puppy i used ribbons..worked fine they just get them off sometimes thankfully not all at the same time:D |
The breeder that I got my girls from put non-toxic colored paint on their toes or somewhere that wouldn't be bothered to tell them apart (I think she had 4 girls and 1 boy.. 3 of the girls were identical!).. |
ID Bands Go to ebay.com and search for "puppy id bands". That's where I got mine from. They come in like 10 different colors. It only cost $8.00 for 40 of them. You do have to trim them down though because they are really big. |
when I bred Bichons I always used nail polish - just painted toes on one paw - never had a problem with toxic smells - of course they were in my house & well venilated |
OMG that is the biggest yorkie litter I have ever heard of! She really did need bands to tell them apart. Bravo! Katelin |
Well I think I'll just wait and see what I end up having. I worry too about keeping something around them. I'm too much of a worry wart! LOL |
i ordered some E_Jay ID bands off Jefferspet.com but haven't used them yet. Mine have always had a different little white mark on them. As they grow, that white mark changes shape and I paint toenails. |
