Anybody heard of Sugar Tree Yorkshire Terriers in MO?
 

I was looking at their dogs and they look cute. Anybody bought a baby from them?

:quizzi: They are breeding some pretty small dogs and their kinda dark. But I havn't purchased one from them.

I do not ever remember seeing Sugar Tree, but I have seen Josh Russell befor- but know nothing! But that name rings a bell for some reason!:confused: :confused:

the puppies look cute- I noticed the have good reviews on Puppyfind! I would call some vets in that area, or ask for a reference!

Thanks for all the reply's. Yes that is the website i was referring to. I agree some of them are dark. But still cute. I am not at the point of buying a yorkie yet. just at the beginning stages of researching. Every other site i was looking at i found a review here so i was just wondering if there was one on this. There is so much information here. I love it.

Here are some red flags I see:
--They are breeding "hybrid" Morkies-->cross breeding = not good:thumbdown
--They are placing their puppies at waaay too young an age (8 weeks!):thumbdown
--They are advertising their dogs as t-cups:thumbdown :thumbdown
--They are breeding 3 pounds girls for Pete's sake!:mad:
--They seem to be having quite a few litters within a very short amount of time (3 w/in a 2 month span?!)
--The health guarantee only covers 'life threatening' genetic disorders, which leaves it WIDE open for non life threatening ones (like LP)...oh wait, they outright say they don't cover LP
--They sell on limited registration, but will give you breeding rights for an extra $500.

Sorry, but these people are everything you DON'T want in a breeder. I would run as fast as I could!

i don't like the site. their mommies are way too little to be breeding.

i have a yorkie from them... but i didn't get him from them. the person i got him from couldn't take care of him anymore and i got him from them. hes not small either. he is at least 11lbs. i didn't know they had a website. i'll have to check it out.

now that i look at Walkers papers its Sugar Tree Gone to the Dogs in Newburg, MO... i guess theres more than one with Sugar Tree in the kennel name!:p

Those moms are too tiny to be bred!

Hello, I'm Josh owner of Sugartree Yorkies and I'd like to take a few minutes to respond to this thread and this post in particular. BamaFan121s I'm sure after watching an episode of Opera you think you're an expert on breeders but I have a few things to add.
First of all that was a link to our old site that was never taken down our new site is http://www.yorkiepuppydogs.com/
We no longer offer full registration and we have not for quite a wile. We do not sell to brokers, breeders or pet shops. Our puppies are for pets only.
Also all of our Dams are at least 5lbs, the exception was Bitty who was 3lbs and we bread her once she had one puppy on her own, and then we had her spayed.
I'm confused on how breeding Morkies make us bad breeders exactly? Both parents are AKC registered, and we've gotten nothing but amazing responses from our Morkie owners. Many of whom are Yorkie owners as well.
And other than those 3 litters how would you know how many litters we are having? You seem to be the expert so you should know that females heat cycles tend to sync and thats why we had 3 litters in such a short period of time. We have a total of 5 breeding age females and this includes our 2 Maltese.
The term T-cup is used by a large portion breeders in advertising and we're the first ones to tell potential owners that T-cup is just an advertising term and that there is only one Yorkie breed.
Our health guarantee is very comparable to 95% of all other breeders and you would be hard pressed to find breeders who cover LP. I'd also like to note that in the 6 years that I've been breeding I have NEVER had a health problem with any puppy.
The reason we put 8weeks is because that is the earliest puppies can be shipped and if we thought for a second there was any danger to the puppies we would postpone shipping, and in fact we normally ask buyers to wait until they are 12 weeks old.

I love a good "Opera" now and then...particularly Andrew Lloyd Webber and Pirates of Penzance, but I'm not sure what they have to do with breeding dogs? Furthermore, I never claimed to be an "expert" on anything, nor do I think I am, but thanks for the compliment.

Bred a 3 lb female on purpose? You are obviously VERY good at what you do then--of all the well seasoned breeders I've ever talked with, none would ever be risky enough to try or condone that... I am very happy all went well for Bitty.

Better question: How exactly do you think it makes you a good breeder?

What does it matter if they are AKC reg if you are cross breeding the two? What exactly are you trying to 'create?'
(Don't take it personally, you'll find the ethics of crossing breeds is a pretty hot topic with alot of people.)

True, they do sync with one another often. But, 1 litter is a handful enough for any breeder, much less 3 so close together. (YOU should know that just because they were all in heat didn't mean they all had to be bred...)

Rapid litters *can* be a indication of a miller--it's ALWAYS a red flag to anyone looking and something you'd want to check on. Now, before that gets twisted, I am not saying YOU are a miller. It IS however something you'd want to be aware of and check into if you are looking for a pup. Do you disagree?

Ah, well, if all the other breeders are doing it... whatever you have to do to attract customers, I guess...?

Nah, most good breeders to cover LP. Of course, most good, ethical breeders make sure that they are breeding these issues down to further generations too...Don't believe me? Post a poll or start a new thread about the issue and see what kind of responses you get.
There are lots of genetic issues, including but not limited to LP, that can arise w/ Yorkies that are not life threatening but costly and heart breaking still. Most good breeders WILL offer a guarantee against them...part of what makes them GOOD breeders.

So basically, someone asked for opinions one what they saw on your 'old' site (but still YOUR site) and I have my opinions--I believe we are all entitled to those, even though others may disagree. So now my words have apparently insulted you and you have *tried* to return the favor, making us even. I'm glad you were given a venue to explain the situations that were questioned months ago and share more about your breeding program. Now the world can return to it's previous harmonious state.

Just a note...I'm not really online that much these days and rarely post or read in this section anymore, so don't take it personally if I don't respond...

:mad:Ok, I am NOT going to get into an argument or respond to negative responses, and I am NOT attacking the breeder, BUT, I have a HUGE problem with yt members running and telling breeders any time a discussion comes up about them. I find that highly inappropriate and immature and it just drives me nuts.

No one came running to tell me anything... I found this thread at the top of a google search, and I think its only fair that I'm allowed to provide my point of view. Especially if its my good name thats being attacked.

Of course you are allowed to share your point of view, I have no problem with that, it just seemed such a coincidence that you responded right away and were aware of the thread.
People have done it before and I just don't like it. If I was wrong, I am sorry.
I will also tell you that many of us here have had horrible experiences with the breeders we bought our babies from; I believe that is how a lot of us found this website in the first place googling problems our babies were having, and so rightly or wrongly, we are untrusting of a lot of breeders. I am not sure I am putting that correctly, but I think you get the idea.

I do understand where you are coming from, but that doesn't mean every breeder should be thrown under the bus. We've worked very hard at creating a good name for ourselves, and have gotten nothing but great responses from our owners, and so you'll understand when we take certain posts about us a little personal.

I can see where everyone is coming from on both sides....reminds me of a time I had a very bad and irritating experience at a chain grocery store. Do you know that to this day I have not stepped foot in one of their chains again? A bad experience with one has soured me on them all. And it was only the particular manager that irritated me. I think sometimes when we have a bad experience with one breeder, it tends to have the same effect. We tend to pick at little things with all breeders. Of course, it is good to learn from our experiences. But I know personally that it is easy to lose perspective after a bad experience.
