I'm WORRIED, could be a BIG problem. Lily is 3 #. She came in heat the 2nd week of Jan. I did not breed her but she has a tummy on her now. I can not feel any babies in her tummy. There is no way she should be pregnant. Since I am not the only person living here, kids and adult kids along with my husband, I might have missed something. I didn't think so but like I said she has a tummy. I am praying to God that it is a false pregnancy. I don't have the money to have her checked out at this time. I will have to scrape it up from somewhere if she is pregnant. What I am looking for is information on what to look for or to do for a false pregnancy. She would be about 38-40 days pregnant if she is. I would think I could feel babies in there if she had any. I am experienced in feeling for babies but I have never had a female have a false pregnancy before. I have another female who was in heat at the same time and I did breed her. She has a tummy and I can feel 3 babies in there. Anyone who has had false pregnancies? I am so worried and scared. This little girl came down with low blood sugar when she was 8 weeks old and we had to seriously nurse her for over 2 months to keep her alive. We are very attached to her. Oh, she is one of our puppies not purchased. Need advice, PLEASE. Sylvia |
A false pregnancy can look a lot like a real pregnancy, I have even had a girl who developed milk with a false pregnancy. Their tummies will get bigger, nipples will get bigger, she will nest and often with false pregnancy the mothers adopt a toy as "their puppy" that they will love and nurture. It is really a sad thing to see them go through. A false pregnancy will last about the same time a real pregnancy would for them, you just have to let it run its course. I really don't think there is much you can do for them other than comfort them and make sure she is still eating good. Since you aren't completely sure whether it is a false pregnancy or not I would be prepared for puppies just in case, it is always better to be prepared. |
I would highly recommend that you get your little 3 pound angel fixed so that you won't have to worry about her accidently getting pregnant. As you know when there is a stud present it's very easy for accidents to happen and it sounds like a pregnancy would probably kill her. Spaying her would keep her from any future false pregnancies as well and help protect her against cancer and hypoglycemic problems by eliminating hormone fluctuations. She's not too small for spaying, I had my 3.5 lb. doll spayed to protect her and she did fantastic. |
I agree with Ladyhawk. I would recommend you have her spayed. You can generally feel the puppies at about 49 days some before some after depending on several factors. I would recommend taking her to the vet in a week or so and having an xray if you are still unsure. Money or no money. Alot of vets will let you pay on a payment plan. Why risk losing her! She deserves that and you will feel better and be able to prepare for whatever needs to be done. |

All of my females have been free whelpers but Lily is so small that I am just praying my heart out that it is a false pregnancy or maybe she is just putting on a little weight. Funny place to put it on if that is what is happening. Sylvia Quote:

I know this but she and her half sister are just sooo darn small I am afraid of them being put to sleep for an operation. I had planned on having Lily spayed but with other problems cropping up it seemed it could wait. Her line doesn't usually come in heat until they are about 14 months old. She was 2 months early. I do plan on having them spayed as soon as the house quits breaking down and I can afford to do it. Sylvia Quote:

Yes, I told my husband last night that I don't know where the money is going to come from but she HAS got to go to the vet and if she is pregnant see what the vet suggests. The least is that he will be prepared if she is and needs a c-section. It just seems to me that if she only has one, it should be huge and I should be able to feel it. If she has more than one I should be able to feel them since I can feel Jewel's babies. Sylvia Quote:

She came down with low blood sugar when she was 8 weeks old and it took us more than 2 months to get her straightened out. It sure felt like it was a year. We nearly lost her several times. So you can see we are very attached to her. Sylvia |
It sounds like a false pregnancy. I really hope it just is and that she is not preggerz |
lacey had a false pregnancy, she went into heat earlier then we thought she would, i had to cancel her app to get fixed and wait until she was done but then she got sick with mvd. we finally just got her fixed and pretty much healthy now i have to get her weight back up she is only 3lbs 2 ozs and was 4 lbs before she went into heat and got sick. but her surg went great! |
Hi everyone. I don't know what it was but she was not pregnant and I don't know how a dog is supposed to act when it is a false pregnancy but she started slimming down a few days after I posted. Probably one of those things like having a severe pain but when you get to the dr it magically dissappears. I made a fuss over it and it went away. We will be getting some of that money back from the government and getting her fixed so I won't have to stress out over it again. Thanks for everyone's help and information. Sylvia |

But Im glad you posted back I dont know much about false pregnancies. I've nevr had one. But I agree with everyone else. Get your baby fixed as soon as you find the money. You dont want to lose such a tiny lil thing, That I know you love to pieces. |
My mother used to breed dogs, not Yorkies, so I have been around dogs all my life and I have never experienced a false pregnancy either. Kind of scary to think that, that is almost what happened. Hmmph, more scary to think she was pregnant and wondering how it could have happened. Yes! we will be getting her and another one as small as her fixed as soon as we can. She is very much adored by me and my husband and we wouldn't know what to do without her. She just turned a year last December, the other one turns a year this month. Thanks, Sylvia |
