I'm going to have to start watching this one...I keep forgetting he's almost 8 months! :eek:

I told him that if he's going to have a best friend to "practice" on, it might as well be her because she's spayed haha. :rolleyes:

Do most of you wait until the male is at least a year before letting them breed? Can they actually be fertile at 8 months??

(Btw I'm not planning to use him until he's AT LEAST a year, just curious.) I was going to show him, but those plans are out the window now since my jealous friend decided to cut off all his hair yesterday...I am still FUMING. :mad:

When I got my first yorkie a few years ago, I was told (after the fact) that daddy was 8 years and mommy was 2 years.. I'm pretty sure he's fertilel..

One of my grooming client males sired a litter at 7 months..she was positive he would be safe and it was his mother...

Wow that's awful, why would your friend go and cut his hair if she knew you were gonna show him????. I don't understand.

I don't think it's okay to breed a dog until they are full grown, fully developed, and mature. Their structure should be done developing, and they need to be old enough to know that no health issues are present (at 8 months they aren't fully developed yet). They CAN breed at 8 months but I think that's way too early

Oh I agree with you, he won't be bred until he's at least a year, and he'll be tested first. I was just curious as to when they're actually fertile. He wears a belly band whenever he's out, and he's watched closely around the girls. :)

Sorry for going on, but why would your friend do that. Jeez am sure your so mad. If I was gonna show 1 of mines and he was nearly a year old, and someone cut there hair I would have been so mad. Jeez you might have had a champion stud there.

he may have sperm but not mature sperm so keep an eye on him. most (not all) people do not use their stud until they are at least 18 months.
