What is the difference between ACK and CKC? I'm trying to do my research on this but can you please tell me the difference in AKC and CKC(Continental)? I have read many posts that say they will not buy a dog that is not AKC. My vet told me that AKC inspects their breeders..where many CKC are puppy millers, etc. |
It's just a different registry. There are good and bad breeders and puppy millers with every registry. That is why it is very important to really get to know the breeder, regardless of who they register their dogs with. Everyone has their preferences. |
 What Bama said!! it is easier to register a dog CKC than AKC but AKC does not inspect breeders. Sometimes they do not inspect at all unless they have had a complaint about you or you have a large amount of litters per year. there are some perfectly good CKC dogs. Believe me, there are puppymills in AKC also and worse. My personal preference is AKC but that is just me. |

Actually AKC does inspect and can at any time. All you have to have is one litter and they can show up unannounced to check where you keep you dogs, look at your books/files to make sure they are up to date, even ask for DNA of your dogs and litters. They do not need a complaint. I know they do this - quite a few of my all breed dog club members have had them show up just to check. We have also had an AKC rep speak at our meetings. I think it is a good thing. It keeps or tries to keep honest people honest. I only have AKC dogs. I also show, but even if I did not show, I would - JMO - have AKC dogs - it speaks a lot when a registry takes things seriously. I think what they were trying to say is that you can have good and bad representation of the standard in the breed in any registry. Anyone that shows in AKC shows - their dogs must be AKC registered to show in any AKC event. T. |

Actually that's what I meant but said it wrong. i know they can insopect at any time. The OP poster worded it such as the vet meant ALL AKC breeders are inspected. Sorry for the confusion. I realized i wasn't clear as soon as i hit the submit button:) |
