Breeders and Ear Mites  I've been wondering if my Charlie came from a decent breeder because I picked him up with ear mites which he's still taking his drops for. I don't know if that is something she could have prevented or if it's something that puppys just get from being around there liter mates? Because I brought him home with ear mites does that make her a bad breeder. I mean the lady was a nice as she could be, seemed like she knew what she was talking about, and she was just helpful. I thought I picked a good choice..other than the ear mites Charlie is happy, well behaved, and he's good around everyone. I'm just curious what the breeders have to say. |
I will not say it makes her a bad breeder, but that is irresponsible imo. Ear mites are very contagious so more than likely all her dogs have them! They really make their ears sore and can cause infections and severe discomfort. If you have any other pets I would keep Charlie away from them until they are completely gone. In all honesty I do not think they could go unnoticed, especially with the scratching and if she is grooming her dogs. Have you had him checked for intestinal parasite? If not I would highly recommend taking a stool sample to the vet to be checked! |
Thanks so much! I appreciate your feedback and will ask for them to check for parasites :( I hope my baby is okay. At his puppy exam they said he was perfectly healthy. I suggested someone on here go and visit the breeder and they purchased a puppy from the same breeder and he has ear mites too :( |
Awe...I would let the breeder know. I guess there is always the chance the breeder is unaware of the problem so if both of you let her know, hopefully she will get everyone ini her home treated. |
puppies I'm a breeder and i delivered a puppy out of state and they contacted me to let me know the puppy had ear mites...i was glad she did because the vet had overlooked it and I treated all my dogs just to be safe. I wouldn't say they were a bad breeder...it happend to me and i'm just happy the new owner contacted me and made me aware of it. tricia |
One of Roxie's pups were found to have ear mites when he went for his vet check with his new owner. We checked Roxie and sure enought she had them as well. None of the other pups had them and Roxie never scratched at her ears. We treated everyone just to be on the safe side. The suspect, a black cat that roams had been seen in our backyard. The vet confirmed that was the likely culprit. We've never had ear mites since though I had a dog arrive from Kentucky with them once. I'm a reputable show breeder and my pup had just been to the vet for his 10 week shot 2 weeks before he went to his new home. Luckily once treated they clear up rather quickly. |
