Breeder Question Good Evening Everyone: I have a question for any breeders out there that can help. I am looking at a Yorkie Baby that is 9 weeks old. We have been told to stay away from puppies where the mother has had multiple liters. We looked at one that was from liter #7 and the puppy was very lethargic so we passed. We inquired about another one this evening and when we talked to the breeder on the phone and asked what number liter he was from she told us that was not anyones business and she does not give out that kind of information. We would hate to discount a puppy that we liked due to that but we want to make sure that we are not going to run into any health problems down the road. Can anyone help with some guidance? Thank you in advance. |
Im not a breeder but I dont like the fact that shes hiding the amount of litters her bitch has had, sounds like shes hiding something to me |
That is what we are thinking. She was real adimint about not giving out that information. He looks adorable in his pic but it scares me when someone does not want to be upfront and honest. |
Anyone that is not willing to tell how many litters her bitch has had is probably trying to hide something. If the breeder is a good breeder he/she would not have a problem answering that question. If the breeder is letting the puppy go at 9 weeks, she is not a very good breeder either. Most toy breeders keep the puppies until they are 12 weeks or older. You should also be asking about health checks for the puppy, and what kind of health guarantee the breeder will give. I would ask to see the female and male if the breeder owns both, or at least the female and the pedigree of both. |
Thank you for your reply, we are thinking the same thing. I don't think I want to deal with someone like that but wanted to ask the question for our future encounters. |
i don't know why anyone would tell you to stay away. Unless the problem is that the mama was too old to breed and they kept on breeding her. both my older girls (Four yrs old) have had four litters. One is done now and the other will be after this litter. But, I wouldn't mind telling anyone that inquired that. it should be a metter of record that the breeder is supposed to keep on her bitches. |
That is what I am trying to find out. If there is no need to worry on the number of litters the mother has is one thing but I felt like she was hiding something and she came across stand offish when we asked. She said we would be able to see the parents from behind a glass window but that was it, no interaction at all. I guess I am not used to something like that as my previous breeder (of which I can no longer locate) was very open with us. |

You can only look at them through a glass wall? Sorry, but I had to giggle. Please just move on. If you question any ethics of the breeder, then you don't want to buy from them. |

I would if I had them, our baby is no longer with us. He now lives in South Carolina with my mother and she can not seem to find the papers since she moved up there. Our Sammy keeps her going since my father died so we did not have the heart not let her keep him. |
Sounds to me like these breeders are trying to hide some shady business. There shouldn't be any reason why a breeder can't be honest with you and answer your questions. I would keep searching until you found one you are comfortable with. If from the start you are doubtful and have questions, that's not a good sign. |
No worries anymore, we found our baby!!!! We went to see him tonight and he is awsome!! We are pickingim up on Sunday. We are so excited and can't wait. Going shopping now to pick up all of his goodies!! (can you say spoiled already!?!?!?!?! |
