Another AKC Litter Registration Question
 
When you sell a pup to someone and they register the puppy, do you get a notification that they've done so? Are you able to look it up or do you forfeit that right when you sell the pup? Does that make sense? :p

You can go to AKC and look up the litter registration number I believe. You can keep track to see if your puppies were registered. I just don't remember what link it is....

Oh ok, but you aren't notified each time someone registers one from your litter? I heard that somewhere but I thought it sounded a little off...

No you aren't notified by AKC....you can sign up for an account at AKC free of charge and it keeps a breeders record. It shows me each dog I own and all the litter information that has been sent to AKC pertaining to all your dogs.

I check on mine all the time. When you go into your breeder records, there is a tab for registered puppies. There it will tell you if they have been registered or not. And no, you don't get any notification if they do.

does it also tell you if the register was limited or full? this way we can find out if a mistake has been made and correct it?

Yes it will tell you if limited or full. You have to join and you can then access your breeder's records and all the information on your dogs...you'll go to manage dogs or something like that once you are a member. I hope that makes sense.

If you have a pup outside of AKC standard, do you still register them or give registration papers when sold?

If I have puppies and I place in a pet home I never give full registration. I only give AKC papers once a puppy is spayed or neutered but starting now I won't be placing a puppy without having them spayed or neutered first.
Some register the puppy just to say they are registered with AKC but IMO it's not really necessary to register a pet but I do like to see that they are registered so I will have record of them.

So, if I have an 8# - 8mo pup, he should be AKC Limited and sold pet only, to be spayed, because he's under the AKC standard? These things are soooooooooooo confusing to me and I want to get it right.

I would place an 8 pound 8 month old in a pet home and have him or her spayed/neutered and placed on AKC limited registration because the pup is over the standard. I placed a very nice 7 month old bitch puppy into a pet home because she was going to be in the 7 1/2 to 8 pound range and that was really her only fault. I could have kept her but I show and she's over the standard so I had her spayed and placed her into a pet home. She was also a very nice representation of the breed too....
