New Puppy Amour is a singleton, she is black and brown. However her mom won't go anywhere without her, she won't eat unless I bring it literally to her mouth. Is it normal for them to be this clingy when they have one. Mom is doing a great job constantly cleaning her and allowing her to nurse. I just want to make sure Angel is getting enough nutrients herself. I haven't even seen her have a bowel movement or anything, I called the vet and they said everything seems to be ok, but we know you guys know more. |
My gals get breakfast in bed the first couple of days and a puppy pad within view of the whelping box. She's going to be very protective at first so just indulge her a bit, never touch the pup when she's away from it, and praise her for a job well done. She'll be more like her old self before you know it. |
Congratulations on your singleton. It is common for the bitch to go 12 to 24 hours without having a bowel movement after delivering pups. It is also expected that the mom will want to stay with her baby constantly for the first few days. I alway hand feed my mommas if necessary right after they give birth and for a few days until they are eating well on their own. Sometimes I just set the food plate in front of the mom in the whelping box and let her eat and then remove the plate. Just give her time, delivering pups is a very dramatic experience. |
I basicly let the moms do what they want. I bring the food too them, often hand feeding them. I also will hold the bowl for them so they don't have to move if they don't want. I also have her pee pad right next to her. Oh water too...make sure she's getting plenty. |
I think shes fine...just loves that baby! Sometimes I have to pick mine up and carry them out to go potty. They just wont leave them the first day or two. I keep my new babies in my bedroom. I think that makes mama more comfortable about them being safe. But she rushes right back in after doing her business. Shooing the others away from the door... They KNOW theres puppies in there..lol |
She was doing much better yesterday, ventured out of our bedroom without the puppy today, my husband said she came to the door with the puppy wanting to go outside and he told her to put the baby back, and she got right back in the box. Then when my daughter came home from school she said Angel had Amour in her mouth sitting on the couch whining to go out. She did eventually go out without Amour then jumped up in my lap for a little love she spent about 5 minutes and right back to the box, so I'm glad she is getting out and at least eating. I have been given calcium, some cheese roll ups and her regular puppy food. They are going to the Vet on Thursday. |
