Testicular cancer and neutering..... I have a 9 year old male that was part of my breeding program but, since I am in the mist of revamping my breeding program, I will not be using him anymore. For those of you that retire older males do you still get them neutered at that age and is it harder on them getting it done at that age. Also, for those of you that don't neuter your older males, has anyone had any problems with testicular cancer. Any input would be greatly appreciated. |
All our boys that are retired are neutered, and females are spayed. I have seen too many testicular tumors working as a tech to not neuter them. I think better late than never. |
male If he is in good health, I would not hestiate...he could get a dental examine at the same time..by nine sometimes a few are loose or a cleaning is needed...it will be a good benefit to him. |
Thank for you both for your input. I know he needs to be neutered but I was a little concerned with his age and was not sure if that would be a factor in the decision. He is such a sweet Little Man and I would not want to do anything that would harm him. I do plan on getting his teeth cleaned at the same time. |
Great Question I've been wondering the same thing...I have two males both 6yrs old that are intact. Both my females have been spayed, but I wasn't sure if I needed to neuter my boys are not. |
My first Yorkie had testicle cancer when he was 10 years old. |
