What Is Standard Time For First Shots? I was wondering when most breeders take their pups in for their first shots?:animal-pa |
Not a breeder but the vet told me five or six weeks is best because when it's given before that it's kind of a waste being as the pup still has antibodies from mamma. |
My vet starts my puppies on shots at around 8 weeks. Martha |
I do 8, 12 and 16 week vaccines. Some vets recommend another one at 20 weeks by my vet and I feel its not needed and over vaccinatiing which can be bad. Before 8 weeks of age as far as vaccines go isn't necessary imo. |

Puppies should not start their shots until they are at least 9 weeks of age. The following link list the protocol recommended by Dr. Jean Dodds, one of the leading authorities on canine vaccinations. http://www.doglogic.com/vaccination.htm |
Here is some more important information on vaccinations: http://www.doglogic.com/vaccineinfo.htm |
shots It is thought that 8 to 9 weeks is better now for shots...if given too soon it interfers with the natural immunity from the dam... |
There is also controversy over the number of shots needed. I use a holistic vet and he recommends distemper and parvo only; the first set around 10 to 12 weeks and the second set 4 weeks after that. Of course, until all the shots are complete you have to be careful not to take them in areas where they could come in contact with parvo. Also, you should never vaccinate a sick puppy. |
1 Attachment(s) Thanks for all the good info./websites. Right now Holly is almost 7 weeks old and she weighs 1 lb. 8 oz. I am not sure how long it will be before she reaches the 2 lb. mark. She is such a cutie pie! So loving, playful and cuddley!:animal-pa |
