Temperature for heating mat? What temperature should you keep your heating mat set to in the whelping pen? |

My heating pads don't have temperatures.....when Lexie had her pups, I had the heating pads on LOW and also put them underneath the bedding in the whelping box. |
pad Put it under the bed itself..moms can scratch the blankets up and the pups will be laying on a heating pad....have it warm to the touch..not hot. |
Thank you everyone! |
i never use a heating mat, always a heating lamp. if the puppies (which they do) get off the pad, they become cold. the lamp equally spreads out the heat and easier to control the temp by either placing it higher or lower. |
I use a heating pad specifically for dogs and it keeps a constant temperature around 100 degrees. I use bottomless whelping boxes that my husband build. I put down a pad, then the heating pad, and then another pad on top of that. I set the whelping box on top of that so the heating pad is just covering half of the whelping box. This way the mom can't mess up all the padding and the pups can crawl on off the heating pad as needed. I use sheets and bed pad for the bedding. |
I have a pet heating pad one side is 98.7 (newborns) and 80.5 (+2 wks of age). Hope this helps. |
