yorkie first heat my yorkie has just come into her first heat ,im not sure wat to do wit her??can anyone advise me please ????:) |
you might want to put a diaper on her so she doesn't get any blood on your stuff, but other than that just give her extra love and make sure she stays far away from any males |
;) thks for ur reply, but we have a male and they cant bear to be apart ,they cry quite load when i seperate them and sasha wont eat unless he is beside her:aimeeyork |
My first suggestion is to make sure NO males get anywhere close to her. Second is to get her a diaper so she doesn't get blood all over your home. She may get moody so be prepared for some changes thru her first heat. There are sevetral Yters who make them but pet stores carry disposable ones. |

thksxx ok thanks for helping me,its good to know. |
Even if you want to breed, it wouldn't be a good idea to do it on the first heat. Your girl isn't mature enough. Please keep them FAR apart. Are you planning on breeding? |
It sucks but they MUST be separated at all times. Especially with this being her first heat, you do not want there to be any chance of her getting pregnant. Your male will cry as long as he can smell her so my best advise is to ask a family member or friend to watch one of them until she is completely done with her heat. The male will be happier that way and much less stressful for you. |
hi thks,we are going to breed ,but we wanted to wait till shes older,so ill just seperate them,it wouldnt be fair on her now |
how ?? how long will she be in heat for ? |
She will be in heat 3 weeks but from day 9 to day 20 she will be the most receptive. |
Are you going to do all the genetic testing and search pedigrees for disease? |
hi this isa our first time with a female,we have our male 8years now, both are top class pedigrees,we have their history right back to there great, great, great grandparents, papers for both of them, full vet checks regular on both of them,so wat do i have to do next? |

Are their lines clear of liver shunt, luxating patella (this could be difficult)...? Does the female come from a line of free whelpers? I have read that as many as 20% of Yorkies have c-sections ($500-$2000). Do they meet the standard of the breed (no roachback, correct bite, good weight..)? Testing should be done for liver shunt (bile acid test), luxating patella and hips (xrays taken of both preferrably), cleared of collapsing trachea, ears and eyes checked... There is a good thread in the breeders section called "Health Screening" right now. There is a small chance that you could lose your girl if you breed her. Someone will also have to be with her at the end of her pregnancy and for the first few weeks of the puppies lives. If she can't feed them, someone will have to every two - four hours.... It is so much work, but if you're up for it and doing all the research, then go for it.:) Happy breeding. |
i am looking forward to breeding her eventually,my yorkies are never on there own we are wit them 24/7,there part of the family we love them to bits, plus i dont think i could cope wit losing her,i will get those xrays done, but i have been told by the vet that they are perfect health and would be a brilliant match for breeding, they give us so much love and affection its great having them |
