White toenails???? Is this normal? Reposting here as I think the breeders would know better than anybody; thank you! My (nearly) 13 week old yorkie has 2 white (clearish) toenails on her left back foot. I have never seen this before, has anybody else? I bought her for possibly showing, will this be a problem. The first half of the toenail is white, you can see the quick, the second half is normal black and it is just on the two nails. |
I thought Yorkies had to have all black toenails to be shown. Someone correct me if I am wrong. But, I guess, it all depends on the judge. I havent seen too many with white/clear toenails. I dont think it is uncommon though. |
i don't think that this is a health problem, a few of mika's toenails are clearish too, but the tip of her paw is white. i think that if you aren't planning on showing him, then everything's fine |
I am thinking of showing her. |

Got her from a show breeder as a potential. I am mainly trying to get into breeding, didn't work out with my last girl, but I also wanted to look into showing her. I had just never seen this before, or even heard of it and it surprised me when I saw it. |
I dont think I have had a judge look through the foot hair at the toe nails either. As a puppy, it might be easier to see the nails. |
Many pups are born with white tips on their feet and white toenails, just like they have the small white spot on their chest. Most likely by the time your puppy is an adult the nails will be black. As a general rule I don't think the judges look at toenails because the coat hides them. I would not worry about it at all. |
