Question for Breeders Ellie has been having urination issues lately and just about everything serious has been ruled out. The specialist was thinking it was possible (but probably not) vaginitis. She said the only way to check is through vaginal cytology. Because Ellie is so small she would have to be sedated or anesthnetized. I chose to treat with antibiotics instead and skip the diagnosis (because I don't want her to go under right now...she was under in October and I don't think this is a good reason to do so...). Question: Don't your breeding girls get this procedure done while they are awake? Ellie is about 5.5 pounds. Can a Yorkie be awake during this procedure? I liked this specialist but this place did appear slightly money hungry. |
none of my breeding girls have ever had this. |
problem Same here..sorry. |
Wow, I'm surprised. I thought most breeders checked for STDs and I was thinking it is the same test. It's just a vaginal smear... Hmm Thanks anyway ladies.:) |

I just talked to her regular vet. She said it wouldn't be uncommon to sedate because they have to go pretty far in with a speculum, but she would be willing to try without. It isn't necessary now since we are giving the antibiotics but for everyone's reference it is best to sedate but it would have been nice if they offered to try without. |
