adult weight???? I know tha this thread has gone around before, but couldn't find it. My yorkie who is 6.5 lbs just had puppies. The father of these puppies weights 3.2 lbs. The puppies at 3 wks. old on Wed. weigh about 18 oz. How big do think their adult weight should be? I was thinking that they would be about 5-6 lbs., but they seem fairly big at this age. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Deb:confused: |

by the charts, they should be around 6 to 6 1/2 lbs as adults..but, that's just a guess |
Wow! These babies will be a handful :) My guy was 18 oz. at 9 weeks! |

So I've found the charts to be "iffy". |
yeh. Its hard to say I do know that the biggest on the side of Mom was 7 lbs. all the others in her line have been fairly small. 4-5 lbs. On the dads side his mom and dad were only 4 and 3 lbs. so who know. Because if they continue to grow as they are they will be enormous (in yorkie standards) by 12 wks. They are now starting to stand and try to play. They are sooooo much fun. I hope they end up in the 4-5 lb. range when grown, but who knows. I chose a 3 lb. dad as abby is 6.5 lbs. and wanted something in between. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. Deb |
I sarted to post this same question. I have one boy that is off the chart. I think I will have the first 100 pound yorkie. That guy eats anytime Mom is around..he never misses a meal. I am thinking he will slim down after he starts running around |
These little guys will keep you guessing about their weight until the end. My little guy was 2.5 pounds at 12 weeks, ideal in my world but he was 7 oz. at birth. He was the biggest pup we've ever had. His little brother at birth is now 2.5 pounds bigger than he is. They will be the size they are meant to be, meanwhile they will drive us crazy! |
Everyone is right when they say you really never know what their adult weight will be. Granted you can check their family line and get an idea but even that isn't a guarantee. My experience so far is this. Maggie had 4 pups, at birth their weights were: 7 oz. is currently at 7lbs. 2 pups at 6.5 ozs and the one I do know that lives with me is at 5.5 lbs right now. and the pup that was 5.3 oz at birth is currently at 7.5 lbs. |
I have a litter of 5 now that are almost off the charts at 2 weeks, but I have that once in a while. It doesn't really matter how much mom and dad weigh, it is whats in their background. You can look at the charts and see if they are following it, but that chart is a estimate not always accurate.;) |
