Question for breeders on your contracts (also posted in General section) Hi! I had to put my YT down the second week in December due to kidney failure, he was diagnosed the first week in November and given 3 weeks to live. He was able to hang on with the help of subQ fluids and a low protein diet (made by mommy from scratch). The breeder says that she is going to honor the contract and refund what I paid for him. My question is, how long is a reasonable time to wait for the refund? The whole experience put me back well over what I paid for him, not to mention the exaustion from staying with him 24/7 and the emotional drain... I just want this to be over.. Jillian |
Most guarantees require written verification from vet that there is a life-threatening congenital defect....and then refund will be given (or another puppy, etc). Assuming anything the guarantee required has been done, I would see no reason for delay in receiving the refund. Some do say that the breeder reserves the right for autopsy, or second opinion, etc. Could this be why they are waiting? |

Where are my manners??? I forgot to say that I am so sorry this happened, it must have really been exhausting--both mentally and physically. I hope you can get this resolved so you can have some measure of closure. |

loss I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your Yorkie...I feel a refund should be given the day it is asked for...unless the breeder is waiting for some sort of vet reports etc...but once it is settled as to the breeder being responsible, then the money should be returned as quickly as they accepted it... |
yah, that's what i thought the breeder knows that it was congenital, her and her vet both have all tony's blood work and vet reports, have each spoken with my vets so everyone was on the same page. she said she could refund the money when she sold a pup... i don't know how i feel about that... how long should i wait? |
In that case, with all requirements being met, I feel that the $ should be refunded immediately. Unless the guarantee states that $ will be refunded after the sale of another pup (which would be weird), offering a guarantee means that she should be able to back it, and that means having access (even a loan) to the funds to do so. It is not fair, nor ethical IMO, to make you wait until she sells another pup. I'm not sure it's even legal if it contradicts her guarantee. I'm sure she didn't give you the pup on the condition that you would pay when you can; the same should hold true for the guarantee. |

I am intererested as well. I had to put Dixie to sleep on the 17th and called the breeder and she said she would be in touch. I haven't heard a word. I think it is so wrong that someone in this position has to bug the breeder after all we have already gone through. |
money The money is not the breeders to spend until the guarantee expires...that is why a breeder needs a bank account for problems...the breeder could be hit by a truck tomorrow and you have lost your money...what does the contract say..? When you return a toaster to Walmartt, do they tell you they will refund your money when they sell another toaster...is is eactly the same principle...this is why a breeder shoudl not breed for money..they buyer gets screwed more times then not... |
