Help! Hi. I just joined today! I have a 3 year old that is about 5#. We have spoke to a breeder in our area that has a 3.5# male. She has been extremely helpful, but no success! My Sadie is at the end of her cycle and she has not and does not want anything to do with the little male. She acts like her little vagina is sore to the touch. Everytime the male get close to her, she shows her teeth. Please Help! |
If she is at the end of her cycle, you probably missed the opportunity. She should have been ready at between 9-12 days from the start |
How many days has it been since she started bleeding and is it at all possible they tied when no one was around? |
I guess we did miss it. Today is the 13th day. I do not think they tied because we watched them the whole time they were in the room together. She would let him get around her before but she would not let him get on her. Is there a reason for that? I would like to try again next time she is in heat, and would like to be alot more prepared then. Any advice? Thanks for all the help!!:) |
I only bred one time in my life..we had a s**t tzu, our shih tzu would not take any of the male shih tzus, so we ended up finding her a little male poodle....she took him really quick.. |
We do have a miniture schnauzer that is only 12 weeks old. Sadie was circling him when she first came in, so we took him to my parent's house. We did not want her to get attached to him. Is it possible that she did get attached to him, although we have only have him for 2 weeks before she came in heat? |

We brought a female over to breed about a month ago and I was thinking the same thing but she finally came around on the 14th and 15th days. I did notice though that my male was more interested in my female when she was in heat and less so with the female we brought over. I'm not sure if it was just he likes mine better or if maybe they had some kind of bond since they play together all the time. |
If this is only on her 13th day you still have time.They are all different they do not read books.Some will accept a male early in the cycle and some are late.Females have been bred on the 21st day of the cycle and still had a litter uncommon but it does happen.One of my females will not a let a male on her till the 17th day. |
Ok I guess I'll be the one to start LOL...but in all honesty it's not meant to stir trouble but if you don't know what to expect during a heat cycle then one needs to do some more studying before breeding. And please don't start trying to breed to another breed OYVEY!!! Your female is most likely still ready but to be honest some females just will not stand willingly for a male. She may just be to scared or not quite ready. I never let my Yorkies 'free breed'. I alway hold the female by the shoulders and let the male mount and tie the female. I always keep a firm hand on the female. Is the male experienced? If the female is ready she should be flagging her tail when the male smells of her? There is much to learning about breeding, you should not just put two dogs in a room and hope for the best. I know everyone has to start somewhere and it is good that you are seeking advise. We are not all born experts so we need to study and learn. I know I made my share of mistakes over the years. I wish I had had a good mentor when I first started raising Yorkies. There are the health issues of the male and female. Then you also have to be concerned with things like brucolosis and pyometra. Pyometra is a serious problem that can develop in unspay females as they get older. |
I really appreciate all the advise. I have not just put the two in a room together. The lady who owns the male, who is a breeder, has been here everytime we put them together. She was flagging the yesterday, but when I held her she would put her tail down. I would never mix the breeds. The breeder told me that Sadie could get attached to another dog if she is around him alot. The little male is just 12 weeks, so I am not worried about that. I really appreciate all the help! |
Mine still get nervous if I try to hold them too early. I have to just keep a really close eye on them and then if they start at it I'll go over and make sure their lined up right and then assist. |
Sometimes is just does not work out. I have had some males that just were too short or too tall for a particular female and they just could not get the job done. If the male is experienced he should be trying to mount the female while you are holding her. If the male is not showing much interest then she might not be ready. I wish you luck. |
