Will Antibiotics For Colitis Dry Up Milk Supply? My Lily has a 15 day old pup and she is taking antibiotics for colitis. It seems to have slowed down her milk production. Is it from the antibiotics or from the diarreah that she had? She had diarreah just one day with blood in it so I took her in right away. (I had given her a different dog food.) She started the antibiotics yesterday morning and has not had any diarreah since then. If it is the antibiotics that are drying her up I am tempted not to do the full one week. I do not want her pup to be deprived. :aimeeyork Any advice? |
i don't know if it will dry the milk up but it will certainly pass from the mama to the baby. Last year, one of my mama's had Mastitis when her babies were only five weeks old. The vet put her on antibotics and told me to take the pups off. Well, that didn't work out, they cried, she cried, i cried at all the whi ning so I called him back after just one day and he said to let the pups nurse and that it does pass to them but at their ages, probably wouldn't hurt them because i was already feeding them and I think they mostly wanted mama for comfort. |
