I think Jinny is in labor
 

She crawled under my tanning bed. I got her out and took her temp and it is 97.7 and her tummy is so tight. I have made her an area in my walk in closet with a whelping box, pee pads and I can go in there if need to be. She hates it and don't want to be in there but I don't want her out to crawl under something that I can't help her. What should I do? I would rather her be safe but was thinking if it might make her have a harder time.

any advice?

When a female goes into labor they get very restless, try to hide and nest. This process can go on for hours, depending on your female. Your female needs to be able to relax but she has to be watched like a hawk. As the puppies move down the birth canal the mom will have the urge to potty, sometimes they will poop several times. It is good for them to be able to move around some until it is close to delivery time. I alway retire to the bedroom with my expectant mothers. We get on the bed and I watch TV and watch them closely. Once the hard contractions start (the bitch will be pushing really hard, poor baby) you should generally expect a puppy within one hour. I have a big wicker dog bed I place on the bed for the moms to have their puppies in. I have it lined with sheets and disposable bed pads. When the bitch is near delivery a big bulge will appear, this first bulge is usually a water bag. Usually after the water breaks the next bulge will be a puppy. Some females let out a yelp when the puppy pops out and others are very quiet about the whole process. The main thing is to be there when the puppy is starting to come out. Sometimes the bitch may need assistance if the puppy is large or coming out breached. You may have to gently work the puppy out. Many 1st time mothers do not know that they are supposed to break the sac so I always do that as soon as the puppy comes out. I also cut the cord and tie it off. Then I let the mom take over. Nothing is going on she is still resting. She gets up and digs around in her blankets then naps again. She likes her box now. One of the other dogs came to the gate and she started growling and barking at them so I am keeping them far away.

I wonder how long stage 1 can last?

all dogs are different. this stage can last 12-24 hrs. some are very quiet while others pant very heavily and run around the house like mad dogs.

when was her due date?

their temp can flux. they can drop then spike up again.

i take it that this is your first time? do you have a mentor that can help you?

please stay with her always now and don't let her out of your site.

also, keep a watch on her belly. the puppies will quiet down before labor begins.

today is 63 days and her first litter. I have keep a record of the temp for about a week.

Yes I have several people online and in my area willing to help. My Vet's assitants have yorkies.

Last night the puppies were going crazy. Today I can feel them but like before. Her tummy is really hard.

How is she doing now. I sure hope you don't have to pull an all nighter! I am on puppy watch too. Tomorrow will be mines 61st day. So far her temperature is normal.

Looks like a all nighter here. She is still doing the same temp has dropped a little more. She acts uncomfortable but not in pain.
