Problem With Ears Going Up Need Help
 
Hi Guys I havent been on in awhile, But I just picked up another little male, He is 12 weeks old But his ears are not going up, They are about 1/2 way there. I know that getting him to chew helps, But other than taping them, which I tried and the other 3 puppies I have chew the tape off the ears, so that dont work for me. Any other suggestions. Love the help I always get form you guys

Trimming the excess hair off the ears helps some, I've heard massaging the ear helps some too but best I've found is the tape. Probably not what you wanted to hear :p I put quite a bit of tape on (the wider packaging tape works pretty well) and if I put triangle cardboard on each ear and tape individually and then tape the two together that usually holds up pretty well - it’s just a pain in the butt to do.

I too have heard that shaving the hair off the ears helps them go up.

I shaved my girls ears when I first got her and her ears went right up!! Good luck!!

With a small trimmer (I use a Wahl's beard trimmer - battery powered) shave the hair from the outside of the ear from the tip to about 1/3 of the way down the ear. Do the same with the inside of the ear. Then, with scissors, trim the edge of the ear to the ear leather. If your puppy is frightened by the noise of the trimmer, try turning on a blow-dryer and putting it close to the puppy but not blowing on it. Most will pay attention to the dryer and forget about what you are doing! This will work for most ears.

If the ear is still not standing, cut a piece of brown grocery sack to fit the inside of the ear - about 1/8" smaller than the ear. Attached to the ear with eyelash glue. Apply glue to sack - let dry for a few seconds and then apply to the ear. Hold in place for about a minute. This will usually stay on for about 3 to 5 days and will then just fall off. If you need to remove - just thoroughly wet the sack and it will easily peel off.

Great idea with the blow-dryer. Mine always hate the noise from the trimmers so I end up just cutting very close with the scissors. I think I'll try the blow dryer next time - sounds so much easier and faster :thumbup:
