Anyone use ground transportation? I am wondering if anyone uses ground transport companies instead of shipping by air? And if so, which do you prefer and what pricing? Any good/bad experiences? |
Do you really want a tiny puppy traveling for days in a hot bumpy truck ? If it's about the money - I'd go with fast and whatever is best for the puppy. |
go by air. it is the fastest way to get the puppy to its owner. like v said, a vehicle is a bumpy ride and by air, normally is very stable and smooth. |
I am no breeder...but I agree with V! Flying is better for the puppy! |
These were my original thoughts, too. And of course, travel by air is definitely cheaper. However, I have heard others opinions that, depending on the company, travel by ground offers more personal attention....some of the services stop every few hours and take them for walks, play in a pen, provide toys and treats, etc. and in fully equipped comfortable vans (not large trailers like haul cattle or other animals). The reason I'm looking into this is that on the last pup I shipped, there was a unexpected LONG flight delay of over 8 hours and I began wondering if there was a better way. Thankfully I am very picky about which pups I will ship and this little lady was very sturdy and resilient....but you still just never know. Also have recently read a couple of articles about the conditions in cargo on planes. Anyway, the ground transport is something I really know nothing about, so was hoping to get some first-hand info. |
The biggest problems I have with traveling ground is they have quite a few other dogs on the trip and if one of them have something and your pet is traveling 3 - 4 days with the other pups look out you will have a problem and STRESS is certainly going to play a big part when being on the road 3-4days. Air is faster and better in my personaly opinion. Good Luck Deana Prestigeous |
There are flight attendants who will transport your puppy for you in the cabin of the plane instead of cargo. I know a number of people who have used that service and been very happy. |

One of our members over on Spoiled Maltese works for Delta. Both she and her husband offer the service. We also have a couple of breeders over there who have used different flight attendants to transport puppies to their new homes. I'll pm Stephanie and see if I can get contact information for you. I'll also see if I can find out about the others, too. It may take a few days with the holidays, though. It's a busy time for anyone working for the airlines! |
