Help For My Newborn Baby As you know I have said that my baby girl already lost 2 of her babies.. As of today the last 2 are 8 days old and I'm afraid my little boy isn't gonna make it...He has stopped nursing and I have tried and tried to get him hooked on a nipple.. so I took it into my own hands and have pretty much stayed up round the clock for the last few days feeding him thru an eyedropper.. He even refuses that, but I have been forcing him drop by drop slowly of course I don't want him to asperate on me.. now he seems very weak and can hardly hold his head up with out it going in all different directions.. IS THIS NORMAL?? I keep telling him don't give up on me.. Im not giving up on you.. Hubby and I are completely devasted at the luck we've had with her 1st litter and quite frankly my dream was to become a very well respected breeder like most of you.. now Im not so sure...my heart is sooo heavy right now..I am trying my best to make sure I don't loose this one.. But what do you think his chances are?? Ive also asked the good lord above that if it's not meant for him to be.. then please take him from me now and stop prolonging things... Has anyone of you been thru this nightmare.. Im so heartbroken.. Im not worried about baby #2.. He HUGE.. and can fend for himself.. Looks like a big baby cub.. ... Thanks for listening.. I'm NOT A BREEDER but am looking for stuff for you to read - try this http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...t=fading+puppy and this http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...t=fading+puppy and this - http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...t=fading+puppy |
So sorry to hear that your little one is doing so poorly! Is he warm? It is imperative that he is kept warm. You can't feed a cold puppy he must be warm or it could kill him. I know of some that have carried a pup around all day in their bra to keep them warm, whatever it takes. I sure hope he makes it. Prayers for you and the pup. |
I pm Deb for help she is a great breeder, I didn't have any problems with my 1st litter so I am not much help, hang in there we will get someone to help you:( |
Here's the fading puppy sticky try this immediately: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=100703 I posted it in your other thread so im copying and pasting so you have it. |
I supplimented my little one who was 2.4 ounces at birth with colostrum mixture 2cc's every 3 hours for the first day. Then the second day I mixed the colostrum with just born and feed 2cc's still at a rate of every 3 hours. I also highly recommend this: http://www.revivalanimal.com/store/p...mate-ASAP.aspx |
I know alot of breeders use dyne, but I'm not sure about newborns. Here's that link: http://www.revivalanimal.com/store/p/2693-Dyne.aspx For newborns I prefer the nursemate asap personally. NEVER FEED a cold puppy!! |
Me, I had one like that (weighed 1.5 ounces)and rushed her to the vet and asked them to teach me to tube feed. It was to weak to suck and it was fading for sure so that's all I had.... It lived and is very healthy...I recommend tube feeding at this point. |
You may also need to tube feed the baby if you can't get food down them. I suggest putting some honey on the babies mouth so you boost their blood sugar up abit while your trying to feed him/her. Sorry I'm abit rushed trying to help you, I'm on an important long disatnce call. I will check back in a few! |
I do know that it is very very important to keep them warm even in the summer. My sisters shih tzu would lose a puppy or 2 a litter until I told her to jsut try things my way. She put a heat lamp on them even in the summer and never lost one. I do know the vet may prescribe an antibiotic drop. He did this with a litter of Aussies we bred years and years ago. We told him about almost losing all of a litter and he put mom on an antibiotic before birth and drops for the puppies after birth they all lived . Not sure if it was that but I do know for a fact that if it feels ok to you then it needs to be even warmer than that, They cannot regualte their temp until 2-3 233ks and get chilled quickly. Once that happens it takes a while for them to warm up. Usually the first sign is the constant whining or yelping that they are in trouble. I struggled and struggled helping my sis with her litters and it is very sad and frustrating. Bon |
I'm checking back for any news on your little one??? I hope by now there are some signs of improvement. |

I wish I had some helpful advice, but I ( thank God ) have never had to supplement a newborn. As was stated, it is imperative to keep the little guys warm. Prayers coming your way ..... |
tubing I would tube feed, but if he's 8 days old it may be too late. If you were only giving drops from an eyedropper if probably wasn't enough, It is certainlt worth a try but you need to start asap. Be sure to get instructions on the proper way to do it. It's scary at first but not really hard |
