Assisting Beginner Stud Hello everyone! I was wondering if any of the breeders here have any advice on helping out a 3.5# male that has never bred. I have worked with 2 studs that have proven themselves for me before but this little one seems different about the situation. My others have always been interested in the whole sniffing and mounting thing but takes several practice tries before they "achieve the goal". I have 2 girls in heat now and he sniffs the one that is not receptive yet and he is not intersted at all by the other that is ready. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. |
male How old is he...? |
Unfortunately some males just never get it. Also if there are experienced males around then an inexperienced male may feel intimidated and he may be reluctant to breed. Be sure the keep the male and the female completely separated until you are ready to try to breed them. Some males just need a little more time. If your female is ready and experienced then she should tease the male to get him interested. How old is your male? |
Thanks for the advice, he is 1yr. 9mths. I do have 2 males and he seems to be the submissive one. The other male is proven and my female was flagging him big time but she is only 7 days into her cycle but she starts standing at 6 days. I separated the other male out. Do you think that even though she was standing for the one male that maybe it is too soon. My other females don't stand until around 10-12 days in. |
Some females do start standing very early. When you think your female is ready just take your male and female to a quiet room and watch them closely for about 30 minutes or so. If he shows no interest then separate them and try again later. It may take your male awhile to build up confidence. I usually start introducing the male and female on the 9th day of her heat cycle. If she is not receptive then I just try the next day. Good luck. |
hang in there he will when you least expect it. |
I have one female that stands at five to six days. |
I had a female tie on her 3rd day after spotting blood  I wasn't expecting anything to happen and let them outside to potty and bam. Thankfully I was planning to breed her BUT it sure made it hard for me to pin point her due date! |
Hey everyone. I tried what you all said and my male was not interested in the female that was ready or her in him, I had to go ahead and breed her to the other stud I have that she was determined to try to get to. Once the second female was standing he decided he was in love with her (He mastered the stud duty). So now I am figuring since before this heat cycle came on for the girls, the males and females had free roam of my house, I have allowed them to choose who they want to partner with without me realizing this. I am really down about not being able to breed the pair I wanted because it would be a line breeding on a very nice champion line. Does anyone know if it is possible for them to choose who they want or have any info about this? I figure I am going to separate the females form the boys from now on, and have the boys separated also. |
