What would you do? As some of you know Bella had a litter of 4 pups, well i have grown quite attached to the runt. She is so tiny and ive invested so much time in her already with helping her nurse and supplementing her that i want to keep her. I have even named her already! BUT, my cousin who is purchasing a pup from me came over yesterday to pick out her pup and guess which one she chose.....now i am going to be truthful to her and tell her to please pick another one, but do you feel that is wrong to do? i dont.... but i just had to vent because im mad she wants my baby haha. it figures.... |
No, it is not wrong at all. These are your babies and you have the right to choose whichever you want to keep, I'm sure she will understand. |
I wouldnt feel bad... I think it would be just fine if you informed her that the pup isnt available and to pick from the others... Hope it all works out for ya :) |
I'm sorry but if it were mine...I'd keep what I wanted! |
Congrats, Iam sure she will understand:) you have to keep the one you want, there your babies:) I know i would understand;) |
pups Always tell people right away when you are keeping one so they won't ask for it...of course, this is your family and you can not put the "keeper" away in another room...I never showed the pup/pups I was keeping, sometimes I think people thought they were getting the left overs because they would ask if they could have pick of the litter..of course, but after me..LOL |

I'd definitely be up front and tell her she's spoken for. If you don't, you'll most likely regret it. I won't even have them in the same room, too much of a bother. |
I also would tell her to pick another and keep YOUR little baby.:D |
The reason we breed is for ourselves so we can show. I would always put yourself first with which one you want to keep. After all that pampering and extra care she deserves to stay with you. :) Deana Prestigeous |
Ok, well here I am with my very first litter as well, only 2 though.. I had stated in an earlier post that unfortunetly I had lost my tiny female and a tiny male.. My other 2 males are bigger.. The problem I'm having is.. I have spent and still do every minute of the day with them, cause frankly, Im afraid to leave mommy alone with them.. She's acting a little loopy with them.. I CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE NOW HAVING TO GIVE THEM TO NEW FOREVER HOMES.. I already have 2 other males in the house.. I promised myself that next litter I'll keep one.. But now Im not so sure.. |
I'm not a breeder and thank goodness, LOL! I just can't imagine how hard it is, even though I know it's a ton of work and feeding etc, etc....but still......my breeder had only 2 girls and one boy in the litter and they didn't even give us a choice, LOL....they were keeping the "runt" and we could choose from the other two. It worked out perfectly b/c my neighbor wanted a girl, and I just wanted whatever Max was, LOL. I think it might be a teensy bit touchier with relatives, but she's got to respect the fact of all the time and emotion and effort you've put into the little one....I can't imagine anyone being upset over that; you KNOW the baby...they really don't. At least, not like you do. |

Did you tell them up front that you were wanting to keep that one. We also had a runt that my husband wants to keep, so I tell people that he isn't for sale yet. if we decide to sell him later then we will, but right now I don't even show him to people. But they are your dogs, and if you want to keep one then your cousin should understand. |
I too know how you feel, and indeed I kept the smallest one of the litter. She is my special girl and I have never regretted keeping her. Others wanted her, but she stole my heart. She makes our family complete. |
