Does having alot of litters lighten the mother's coat color? A breeder stated that the the mother's coat was so white in various spots because she had borne alot of litters, and a mother's coat gets lighter and lighter each time. Is this true? |
Their coat does get lighter and lighter with each season. I haven't seen white spots, so I would ask the breeder for pictures of her female when she was younger. If you're looking to purchase a pup from her, you want to see what her coat looked like. |
Not only has my girls coat got lighter as she has aged, but she 'blew' her coat with her last litter. |
What does "blew her coat" mean? I'm truly uneducated about breeding. Since a person should see both parents, if possible, before buying, I am curious as to what to look for. My vet said that some breeders will say anything just to sell the dog. |
Yes, some will definitely say anything to sell a dog. My best advice to you.... post your inquiries here. You can even ask about the specific breeder that you are looking to purchase from. Also, if you have any doubts what so ever, do not buy from them. Listen to your gut. |
coat The color of a coat is no indication to how many litters she has had..as posted, it is a hormonal thing. I have spayed girls and seen them darken..not a huge amount of color, but several shades darker then when they were going through seasons and having pups. My best advise is to ask to speak to the breeders vets for a reference..get a one year health guarantee, make sure the puppy has seen the breeders vet for a well puppy check before taking it home..if the breeder gives shots, be prepared for some vets to redo them...I give my puppies shots, but let the vet do the last one to prevent this problem...you want to see a negative stool check from the vet also...good luck |

When I say she blew her coat, I mean her coat got a lot thinner while she was pregnant due to hormonal changes but now that the puppies are weaned, it is coning back but will probably never be as thick as it was. |
