Can you register puppies if female is AKC and male is AC?
 
Does anyone know if you can register puppies with AC when female is AKC and male is AC? I know you can't with AKC but I don't know about AC.

It's American Canine Association. I guess I should have said ACA.

You cannot register them AKC. Both sire and dam must be AKC registered in order to do that.

You would have no choice if you want some type of papers..AKC will not do it...

AKC and ACA are two different purebred registries. Some people who are looking for simply a pet will not care about the difference, although for many AKC is considered more prestigeous. It has been around much longer, and is more particular about registration. However, for someone who wants to show their dog, AKC would be a must.

While AKC will only register if both parents are AKC, ACA will accept the AKC registration of your female. You will need to provide a copy of the AKC registration to ACA to register your puppies ACA. The puppies are only eligible for ACA, not AKC.

The AKC has very strict standards requiring that breeders prove that their breeding dogs are purebred by requiring DNA samples. The ACA just takes your word for it and is obviously abused. The ACA is the big "pet store" store registry since so many of the dogs they register are from puppy mills. They even have a page recommending pet stores! :eek: :eek: :eek:

Wow...I knew they weren't at all a reputable registry but I had no idea they recommended pet stores :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown

Are you referring to the DNA requirements for studs? I apologize if this is a silly question, but this is the only DNA testing we have ever been required to do for AKC. I just want to make sure that we aren't missing something....

Not entirely. AKC only requires a male to have DNA certification if he sires a certain number of litters per year...I think in excess of 2? So in cases, DNA is NOT always submitted.:)

Thank you. I knew about the stud DNA reqs, and that it was available if there is a question of parentage. But I didn't realize there was also a separate voluntary program.

It's required if the stud has produced 7 or more litters in his lifetime, or more than 3 litters in a calendar year.

It's also required for imported breeding stock, dogs whose semen is collected for artificial insemination, and for the sires, dam and puppies for Multiple-Sired Litter Registration.

Correct. I was just referring to the fact that there are some cases where it is not required to submit DNA--so the 'AKC requires DNA testing' isn't accurate accross the board.:)

You can register them ACA, but not AKC. Both parents have to be AKC to be registered with them. I don't know much about the ACA, but the AKC is recongized as a quality association.
