Breeding & extra teeth I have just purchased a male and two female yorkie and am planning to breed. When I purchased my male(at four months) he had beautiful teeth. He had a great bite and his teeth looked very nice. Last week (he is now 6 months) I felt something protruding on the side of his mouth and thought maybe he still had a piece of a bone in there. As it turns out he has extra teeth. I really can't see very good what is going on in the back, but in the front he has at least two that are on the outside of his other teeth. He also has 2 under his tongue in the front. Does anyone know what causes this??? Am I still able to breed him with my 2 females? If I do breed him should I also extra the puppies to have this problem? Also I have read about trying to loosen them as much as you can so they come out on their own. Which ones do I loosen??? I assume the one that are on top or on the outside. Thanks Tauni |
teeth If you decide to breed, get used to double teeth with puppies. It is a toy breed thing. He needs the vet to remove the double teeth..asap as to not ruin his bite. GOOD LUCK. |
I always wait if only one or two until about 8 months old, sometimes they can loosen and fall out on their own till then. Pat when do you recommed pulling (what age?) |

teeth It depends what teeth they are for me..top pup canina are rarely a problem if left for awhile..they are the ones BEHIND the adult canine. If they are the bottom ones, then they are side by side and can push the adults way out of line..the pup teeth are on theinside and the adutls onthe outside pushing them out the sides of the mouth. Usually the single teeth will fall out and the caps on the molars can be brushed off as rule...that can cause nasty breath. So I would wait depending on which ones..now you have to figure out what teeth he is retaining..LOL |
A show breeder I spoke to this week had given her pup to a handler for a bit, she won in his first puppy class event, the handler called her saying she needed to get the extra baby teeth pulled, she said go ahead and have your vet bill me...Well your not going to believe this, the vet pulled all the adult teeth and left the baby teeth...YIKES so much for a show career! boy was she pissed! |

nope thank god I believe they were in CA or Idaho cant remember where the handler lives. This breeder lives in Bend, very nice gal. |
Thanks goodness!! Guess what I am finally getting my pup on thursday....Im so excited. When she gets a little older it would be nice to get together with you and your house full....lol. |
I am taking Buddha to a dental specialist on the recommendation of our vet because his extra bottom teeth have affected his bite at 9 months. He is also afraid they could puncture his soft palate and cause holes which can lead to infection. Just an FYI about leaving those sharp, tall canines in there for too long. |
