mother has no milk.... Our female yorkie gave birth to three puppies today. The first one was born at noon today, the other two not until 5pm. It doesn't seem that Libby(mother yorkie) has milk yet? is this normal? the female seems like she is getting weak. When will Libby's milk come in? Please help! Thank you:) |
I am bumping this up for you:) |
Her milk should be in.....you need to start supplementing the puppies right now. You can do it with an eyedropper and puppy replacement milk. The milk can be purchased at your vet's or a petstore....even Walmart has some called "First Born". |
I'm sending you a PM. |
Thank you for your messages. We just got back from Walmart with the first born milk formula, an eyedropper, and karo syrup. We fed all three puppies but are very worried about the female. She is colder and very weak. We put a heating pad under the welping pen and am trying to get them all warmer. This is awful. I just hope the female will be ok. I think the two males will be fine but the female is only moving a little bit, but she did take the formula from the eyedropper. |
I would get your girl to the vet if she doesnt improve!!!!! They can see why she is cold and also give her an Oxitocin shot. That usually brings in milk. Give her some Nutrical. Best of luck!!! |

pup Do not feed a cold puppy milk, it will kill it. Give it warm honey water.. Milk does not always let down until the pups nurse..sometimes I can barely get milk from mom, but the pups nurse and grow. Put them on mom..(the warm ones,) get the cold ones temp up..encourage them to nurse by putting them on the nipple...good luck |
Colostrum comes first and the pups have a reserve that will serve them well until the milk is flowing. As yorkie rose said the most important thing is to keep them warm. Cold kills more new pups than hunger ever did. The pups will stimulate milk production as they attempt to nurse. |
I am just seeing this thread and am wondering how mom and the puppies are doing. I assume you are busy tending to them all and pray that everything will turn out well. Please let us know how they are doing when you get the chance. In the meantime, I will say some prayers for mama and the little ones. :hands: :hands: :hands::hands: |
When I had a cold puppy a few weeks ago, my vet suggested using 2 liter soda bottles. Fill them with hot tap water and wrap with newspaper or towels. Put one or two in with the puppies, it helped warm mine up. Martha |
Geez, I hope the little girl makes it. Really keep her warm (i know everyone else said that, too) Keep us posted...I will be watching and praying for you!!:) |

I hope things are going better for you now. Let us know how you're doing. |

you can use a warm hair dry on her to bring her temp up also throw a fuzzy blanket into the dryer and wrap her in it when its warm... as Pat said never feed a cold puppy milk, it can kill them...you can take a drop of karo onto your finger and wipe it on each ones tongue remember just a tiny drop...also if you cant get them to latch on put a tad of karo on the nipple sometimes if their strong enough they will latch on to that... if you have beef liver that too works wonders for a weak puppy... http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=100703 |
