when and how much to feed? I bred abby on Nov. 8 and am hoping that she is pregnant. She seems to be hungry all the time. Do you increase their food intake this early? She is on day 21 tomorrow. If so how much to you feed and what type of food do you guys feed your babies. Right now she is eating royal canine for yorkies. Thank you for all you suggestions. |
I don't like the RC cause it has corn in it, but thats my opinion. I did not start increasing Baby's diet till 2 weeks before her due date. But I leave my food down for them to get when ever they want. Mine eat 2-3 times a day. |
When I took Lexie in to determine that she was PG for sure, my vet asked me if she was eating a high quality puppy food already (this was day 35ish) and that I should feed her as much as she wants. So I would say yes you can increase her food intake at the point you are at and change over to puppy food for her. She needs to not only maintain her own diet, but supplement her growing puppies too. Good luck and let us know when you know for sure about her pregnancy.:D |
Ideally, you should increase it towards the end of the pregnancy. The last 3 weeks is when I do it (2 sometimes). No need to change foods or change to puppy food (they have increased fat and calcium). If you change now, you may end up with a fat female and she needs to be in her best shape before birth. I encourage you to research for yourself, so you will not be in doubt for your pet's sake. |
Thanks for all the inputs. I will research and see if there is a better food than what she is currently eating. What do you guys feed your girls? We have a natural pet food center near here that my friend suggested that i go and talk to them. |
here is a thread with some good foods. Chicken soup and natural balance can be found where royal canine is, probably a few others. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...+healthy+foods |
