just a question on breeding.. First and foremost. I do not Want this thread to become controversial.. I know that breeding is a touchy subject to some.. so i'd like to get that out of the way.. I read on the net that purebreds were actually inbred mixed breeds. is that true? i found a website that was talking about it.. http://www.netpets.com/dogs/referenc...bragg.html#toc I think it's pretty interesting actually. My question is.. for you breeders, Would you rather breed two purebred dogs that both have very bad temperaments but have good looks.. Or.. would you breed one mixed dog and a purebred dog that both have great temperaments and characteristics? i don't know if im making sense.. lol :p |
Not a breeder, but my answer is none of the above. I'd breed two purebred dogs who have good temperments and good looks. I'd keep looking for two good dogs and hold off on breeding until then. |

I agree I would not breed- If that was the gene pool that I had to choose from. The bad temperment dogs should be altered. You are not improving the breed. wnalegria |
breeding If those were the only two choices, I would get another hobby and not breed. Yorkies, as Kimberly posted in another thread were developed by mixing several terriers. Now that "type" (traits that make a Yorkie a Yorkie) has been established, there is no need to go back and breed to mixes. |
