This works great! I had to take the pups to the vet Friday to get the tails and dewclaws done, well I wanted to make sure I kept them warm, so I made them a rice bag. Another YT member told me that they use the rice bag to keep pups warm. So I measured my carrier bottom and whipped up a rice bag to fit my carrier, right before I left I warmed it up in the microwave and it worked so well! The vets office just thought that was the neatest idea! So if anyone needs a nice bag to fit there carrier, let me know and I can whip one up for you on my machine! |
What sort of fabric do you use and what kind of rice? Just curious. Did I hear about one made with feed corn also? I was thinking about making one for a sick puppy I know. Would it be best to have a pillowcase type outer bag you can take off and wash? Could the outer pillowcase be fleece? Thanks! Sorry to be a pain, but I think this might really help my friend's puppy. It's colder than usual here and she has to take him to the vet a lot. |

I love your Rice Mat Idea Missy  I love Rice bags... When my shoulder was bad I used one on it.( thanks to TinksMom :) ) I just made mine out of a tube sock and Rice and made it look cute by putting a fuzzy sock on it. It worke great. |
My grandma used to make those (great for cramps... sore muscles.... backaches) and she used a terry cloth.. acutally i think she just went to like the dollar store and bought a cheap towel and used that! good thinking Missy :) Can't wait for 1 week pictures! |
That's a really nice idea. |
Thank you so much for the info! :) :D |
What a great idea!!! Thanks! |
I've made these before with pantyhose. You can put a sock over it then if you want to. The puppy can snuggle right up to it just like it's with a sibling. It works great! |
I have seen those. What a creative idea! |
Missy that is a WONDERFUL IDEA!!! I need one for sure!!! PM me when you get a chance :) |
I know Lisa (s13silviagirl) makes and sells these! Maybe you guys could PM her and ask her to make you a special size? |
dumb question... do you heat it in the micro? How does it stay warm? |

I have the kind filled with field corn. There is a slight odor when they are heated. The maker did put cinammon sticks in which helped for a while. The odor isn't horrible and I still use them for aches or chills. I even use them at work in the winter when they keep the thermostat too low for me. Just place it in my lap to warm my hands on. But I'd love something with no odor. I'm curious, does the rice have an odor? |
