Airlines for Shipping Puppy?
 

Hi,

I've got someone in New York who would like to buy my last little puppy, and I was wondering which airline would be the best to try to ship with? I looked for a flight myself to take her along with me, but couldn't find a round trip ticket that was affordable.

What kind of temperatures would she be exposed to? Is this safe to ship by air? I worry about it being too cold and her being left out in it.

I've never shipped a puppy, but my puppy was shipped to me. I have heard lots of horror stories about people shipping puppies through Delta, so if I were you, I would try to avoid them. Most animals that are shipped will be in a temperature controlled environment. My puppy was shipped through Continental Airlines. I was very pleased with their services. They had someone in the room with the puppies. They even fed and watered them. Even the Continental employees who worked at the airport were very helpful.

I have used Delta with no problems at all and cargo is temperature controlled BUT Continental is by far the best. Puppy is taken to plane in a special "pet' truck. is the last loaded on and the first off loaded. Continental just does more of the little things to make sure your pet is safe.

Yes go Continental if you can. Megan's Rusty (9 yrs old) senior dog was shipped from N.J. to Alaska just recently by Continental with no problems and you can even watch the flight on their website.

As Sugar's Mom said, Continental is the best.

I've only flown Delta (no choice here) and everything has always went fine for my pups. They've arrived in great condition (as far as flying goes).

For me is continental as well , that is my 1st and only choice if I have to ship .........it has to be continental or I just won't ship at all.

We have no Continental service here in WV that flies pets in or out and I have really been treated wonderful with Delta. We had our Maltese pup, he is gorgeous by the way :) shipped from Kansas to us.
There was a flight delay which is a part of life when flying. I called the connecting airport and told them I had a precious puppy coming in on that flight and I was concerned as there was a flight delay and he would not make his connection and no more flights that night to our airport.
The worker put me on hold, and called to have one of the guys meet the plane to get my pup. When we arrived at our airport our puppy was there, now there was some upset people with no luggage. But the guys at delta knew the luggage could wait a day but the puppy couldn't :)
So don't be too quick to slam Delta. I think a lot depends on your area too.
Some people are not as lucky to have all of the airlines to choose from. I could drive 3 1/2 miles one way to use Continental and I have before but most of the time that simply is not possible for me to do.
But if I didn't use Delta to fly my pups in and out I wouldn't have any.
So we can speak highly of Delta as we have experienced there service quite often and no mishaps.

Continental hands down :D

HarrisFamily, any airline should be OK, they are usually very good at that, but direct flight is something that you should look for.

Direct flights are the best, I have noticed it is getting harder and harder to get direct flights. Has anyone else noticed this?

I recently got my dogs from Europe.
It wasn't direct flight, but it was only one spot in Frankfurt.
We used Lufthansa.
It was 5 dogs on this flight flying cargo from different countries in Europe, meeting in Germany.
I'm the lucky one living near the airport, but 2 more happy owners drove for about 5 hours to make the trip for the puppies as easy as possible.

When we had ours flown from Europe we drove 3 1/2 hours to the closest International airport because they have to clear thru Customs so there is no option when you have to go thru customs. Our local airports are not major airports so they could not make a connecting flight.

We flew the breeder in with one of the pups we flew in from Germany and drove the 3 1/2 hours to met him at the closest international airport which was 3 1/2 hours. I prefer to fly the breeder in with them when coming on a flight that long. Very wonderful to meet them and have the pup in their care on that long of a flight

Have any of you flown with your babies in the cabin before? I am going to New York in a few months and I'm trying to figure out with airline to take. I normally take United, but I've heard they kinda hassle people with pets in the cabin even though it is allowed.
