Help!! My Yorkies Are Fighting!!! :animal-pa :animal-pa I have two female, sister, yorkies. They were the best of friends for their first 3 years of life with us. Around their 3rd birthday they began to visciously fight with each other. We are not sure why. A few months after the fighting began we bought Buddy, a male yorkie. The fighting still continues between the sisters and we still have to separate them. We bred our male yorkie with Lily, one of our female yorkies, and are hoping to find out that she is pregnant. Today I bought two muzzles for the females and took them on a walk together. I had to have one on each side of me on the leashes. My goal is to get them to be side by side walking, without fighting. They are only this way with each other. Otherwise they are very calm, submissive dogs. I have a feeling that the fighting may be some sort of a dominance thing going on? I know there is something that I can do to make this stop, but I don't know what to do. |
Bitches Unspayed bitches tend to live up to their names sometimes...once they start, it is all but impossible to ever trust them again..they may go for months and be kissy-kissy, then one day out of the blue they attack each other over nothing...never trust them alone. You can not imagine the breeders who have had dead and injured Yorkies from bitch fights....I had two girls who lived in completely separate parts of my home...they went 6 full months separated from time to time.. different play yards too......and within 5 mins of seeing the other they were showing teeth...but each girl was an angel with other females and puppies..not a mean bone in their body, totally trustworthy until "that Bitch" walked in the room... |
I will second what Pat (YorkieRose) is saying. My Chattie and Chizzie absolutely HATE each other. There is no doubt in my mind that they would fight to the death - no exaggeration. They are kept separated by baby gates 24/7 355. I love them both and each dog loves all the other dogs in the house, but these two have it in for each other. |
Are Chattie and Chizzie both unspayed females? Both of mine at this time are not spayed. After each of them has a litter I will have them spayed. Did your two yorkies ever get along? Mine used to be the best of friends!!!! |
females Sometimes spaying stops fighting, but ...not always. |
Well that answers my question of whether I will get another Yorkie:eek: Do males fight like that? |
males Breeding males can be bad, but I must say, my boys rarely even bickered..BUT I had secure areas for sleeping/play if I was busy and not see or hear them.. I have never found neutered males to fight...and most females do not... |
My male yorkie, Buddy, never gets involved when my two unspayed females fight. He will back away. Smart little guy! |
We had a terrible problem with our spayed female Pebbles fighting with all of our female dogs, both the spayed and unspayed ones. It was so bad we finally found a new home for her. We miss her, but she is actually much happier with her new owners. She is the only pet and they love her to pieces! I still have 4 females now, 2 spayed and 2 not and only occasionly have some disagreements. Good luck with working things out;) Martha |
