Is it too soon to find out whether my Yorkie is pregnant? How soon do Yorkies start showing signs of pregnancy? My female went into heat approx the last week of Sept. What signs should I be looking for.. the only difference that I have noticed is that she has been snapping at my male Yorkie, which she never did before. They have always ate out of the same bowl of food and now she will not allow him near her bowl...could this be a sign of pregnacy? Does their temper tend to change during pregnancy? |
Is her nipples inlarged? Mine tied Sep 12th and she is getting a nice belly on her now. |
not very enlarged, but a bit bigger than normal |

If you google "Yorkie Whelping" you will find a ton of info. I printed out several pages of info to read, I also went to are local Library and checked out a few books that had info in it about breeding and whelping. If this is your 1st litter, you need to take this time to find all the info you can find and get prepared! www.debbiejensen.com is a excellent site to get prepared. another thing I did was go to youtube.com and type in "whelping, dog giving birth, dog labor, etc... and I watched some videos. I took Baby to the vet when she was about 4 weeks along to have my vet confirm. |
Her nipples will be firm, more pronounced (poking out). Her vulva will be swollen, not as swollen as during heat but not as swollen as before heat. You may also see milk ducts developing around the teats. She may also vomit yellow and foamy most I've seen. Good luck, let us know how she is. |
All that!!!!!!!!! I have my ultrasounds done at 28 days but 30 days is better. My vet missed two of mine this time. all i can figure is three were from the first tie and two were from the third tie. he said three and I ended up with five. two little guys. |

My girls tempers are always playful. Some good advice, feed her puppy food if you think she is pregnant. Ask your Vet for an X ray about 54 days into gestations. Gestation is about 62 - 67 days. Xrays are good to see the size and position of the pups. Also it cuts out the guessing of how many pups to whelp. The Vet should check her pelvis to make sure she can whelp normally or if she needs a C-section. Good luck, I bet your excited. |
