Aggressive Puppy - Need Advice!
 

This is my first post and my first time breeding. I did research before jumping into this and I'm aware that puppies can be aggressive, needing training, socialization and discipline. I'm wondering if I need to seek out professional help with the problem I'm encountering.

My dam whelped 3 puppies in August with no complications. The pups are 9 weeks old now. Mom worked hard to socialize all 3 pups and appeared to be successful with two of the three and they are submissive and sweet-natured. The 3rd pup is also very sweet (with humans) yet when my female (mom) Yorkie attempts to discipline him, he gets very verbal (growling, snarling, mewing) then rears back on his hind two feet and bites at her! Unfortunately, the more he does this, the more frequently she pounces on him demanding submission...it's like a vicious (no pun intended) circle. Sometimes my dam appears confused by the behavior but most the time she seems to enjoy the "romp" and keeps wrestling with the puppy until he or she becomes exhausted. Is this normal? I'm afraid the pup will become out of control. I've tried researching this kind of behavior and not coming up with any concrete answers. Any experienced breeders out there have some words of wisdom?? Is it time to hire a dog trainer? Thanks, I appreciate the comments.

Wow, that's interesting. I would be baffled by that behavior in a pup towards his mama also. My female just had her first litter 3 weeks ago, so, sorry, I have no suggestions for you, but will be checking back on this thread for the answers given. If it happened with one of our pups, I would probably have just chalked it up to a spunky pup (as long as it didn't get to crazy), and maybe inform the buyers of that pup about the situation and advise them to be sure to enroll him in a puppy behavior class.

Is he the biggest pup..what are the sexes of the other two littermates?

Thanks for the comments. He is the biggest pup and he likes to be the dominant male but he also allows the allow two pups to tackle him and bite on his ears (playfully). He enjoys his littermates and likes to initiate play...tug of war, pulling the poddy pad around the den and making the others follow. The smaller male will sometimes jump into the mix and help mom try to tackle the big pup. When this happens, he becomes really angry and "verbal."

He's incredibly sweet with humans. None of this behavior observed. He licks and kisses your face and loves his belly to rubbed so he doesn't have a problem being rolled on his back. He makes frequent eye contact and watches me from his pen while I'm doing chores around it, i.e. doing dishes, picking up, etc. I think he's very smart and alert...he's been this way since a very young age (few weeks old.)

There are 2 males (he's the biggest one) and 1 female pup in the litter.
