At what age should you stop breeding females? Does anyone know how old a yorkie should be when you breed them the last time.......and how many heats should they be breed.????What is the max amount of litters a female should have???? I've heard that some breeders will breed every heat cycle for seven , eight years and some say every other.....what's the correct way to do it???? The conversation came up today and i really wasn't sure what the answer was.....our females are pets ...we love them very much and we don't want to make any mistakes.....Ours are still young but would like the enfo to pass on to others..........brody's grandma |
Personally, I would say 5 yrs 3 litters, 4 max. But that's just me. I've been told I err on the side of caution, so.... |
I feel that you really need to consider the individual bitch when determining these things. It would depend on how often she cycles, her general health, her whelping experiences, and the health and number of pups she is producing as she gets older. I know a very experienced show breeder who plans to breed her 8 yr. old bitch. When I asked why she explained that she is in excellent condition, hasn't had many litters and is most likely to throw the pup that she is looking for with her international champion male that she will be using. |
